    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other noises & leaks problem

""This noise began shortly after we bought the car, and continues to haunt us. We cannot reliably reproduce it, and it is more likely to occur when cold, so the dealer has been unable to diagnose and fix the problem. This is a noise which sounds like a low moan when beginning to move after being stopped - i.e. at a stop light, or just after backing our of our parking space in the morning when we start to move forward. The poor experience with the Kia service department was enough to prevent us from even considering Kia for our new minivan when we needed to replace our old one.""

    Squeaks or rattles

"The automatic parking brake feature sometimes does not fully release the brake, causing a load noise from the rear especially during cold weather. Started in first 5 months, took it to dealer who said its not a problem"

    Anonymous A., CO (2024 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid EX 1.6-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen goes blank

""The display repeatedly went totally blank / black unpredictably on several occasions, and would remain so. After 2 weeks at the dealer it was determined that the auxiliary battery was discharging and not recharging since we were not running the internal combustion motor enough to recharge it. We also advised to use the Kia app sparingly because using it "wakes up" the onboard modem, thus discharging the auxiliary battery.""

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"The Bluetooth player occasionally plays at about half speed so an audio book or podcast sounds like its a groaning monster. Music is worse"

Anonymous, CT (2024 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid EX 1.6-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"I did not use/drive the Kia for a little over two weeks and the 12 volt battery completely drained."

Anonymous, IL (2024 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid EX 1.6-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Keyless entry

"Sometimes one fob doesnt work. Weve changed batteries. It just doesnt workand then it suddenly does again"

Anonymous, CT (2024 Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid EX 1.6-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

    What Owners Say

    Other electric/hybrid battery problem

""When the EV battery is charged and mode set to EV, the car should start in electric power, stay in electric unless power demand or other conditions require ICE, and return to electric from ICE when the power demand subsides or other adverse conditions are no longer present. It very frequently fails on all three of those things, especially on switching back from gas to electric. The problem started as soon as I got the car and persists to this day, despite three trips to the dealership to have it diagnosed (they have performed two BRIEF road tests and declared it was working perfectly). I also recorded three videos proving the latter malfunction, which I sent both to the dealership and to the Kia Corporate Customer Assistance Center. The dealership never responded, and the Assistance Center said they could not view the videos, and that they could not provide any information (e.g. from the user's manual) that might explain why this behavior should be expected. I am considering initiating a request to return the vehicle under the lemon law.""

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Charging port problem

""This manifested as a transient check engine light a few months after purchasing the vehicle. The dealer diagnosed the problem and replaced the charging port, covered by warranty. Unfortunately, we were inconvenienced for about a week without our car and no loaners available.""

    What should you do:
Dealers will inspect, replace and reroute the floor wiring assembly, as necessary, free of charge. In addition, dealers will install wiring covers.
