    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"Head bolts pulled through cylinder block resulting in need to replace engine. Started March '23; resolved June '23"

Anonymous, AZ (2014 Kia Sorento Limited 3.3-L V6)

"KIA WAS GOING TO CHARGE US FOR A NEW ENGINE UNTIL A MECHANIC TOLD US ABOUT A RECALL ON ENGINES. THEN THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE US FOR THE CATALYIC CONVERTER THAT WENT BAD, THEN DECIDED TO CHARGE US FOR THE REPAIR WORK. IN THE END THEY DECIDED NOT TO CHARGE US FOR EITHER, BUT WE THANKED THE MECHANIC FOR TELLING US!"

Anonymous A., PA (2014 Kia Sorento EX)

"2.4 liter engine developed rod knock about 114000 miles. replaced under warranty by local dealer."

Anonymous, MI (2014 Kia Sorento LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Other major engine problem

"When slowing driving into our garage, car accelerated unexpectedly (as if accelerator pedal pushed down). Resulted in significant damage to both sides of wall (garage & laundry room). No damage to car except a few little scratches. Saw on internet that some Sorentos and Hyundai models had had this problem. Reported to KIA and local dealer. Couldn't find an issue. A few weeks after the inspection, Sorento was parked on our slanted upward driveway. Engine off. Then after started, it began to drive up driveway without foot on accelerator. Had done this at least 3 times in other situation. Problem is still not resolved. Had to wait 3 weeks for an appt at Billion KIA in Iowa City, IA. To take it in again soon."

Anonymous, IA (2014 Kia Sorento EX 3.3-L V6)

    Alignment

"It was the alignment and the wear on the two front tires that initiated my concern and wanted it dealt with immediately. I was driving on the highway doing 100 KLM and I was running on the steel belts. A major concern for sure. A blowout could have happened on one or both tires. Scary thought for sure. I certainly was happy when everything was re-paired."

Anonymous, ON (2014 Kia Sorento LX 3.3-L V6)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

"I wore out two perfectly good tires in 2 months just after servicing. Questioned the Service manager and he did not believe me until he saw the tires. It cost me $1800.00 for a new steering rack. Priced aftermarket and it only cost $300. The dealer had no comment. I had to pay for one tire. The dealer paid for one tire and did an alignment at no charge. I did not have the expertise or the tools to change this out or I would have."
