What Owners Say
"The engine was consuming oil at a considerable rate and eventually the engine failed (while on vacation in another state). Even with regular oil changes, topping off when noticing it was low, etc., this still did not prevent a catastrophic engine failure. Loss of power, considerable knock and vibration. Loss occurred in early August. Had to tow car over 300 miles home and was without vehicle for 6+ weeks waiting for the engine rebuild. Rebuild fell under class action lawsuit against Kia for Sorentos with Theta II engine."
Anonymous, MN (2016 Kia Sorento EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"My Sorento developed an oil leak so I took it to the dealer to have them look at it. Turns out the oil leak was from an area Kia had never seen my engine type leak oil from, so Kia decided to replace the whole engine. Kia did this under the factory warranty so it did not cost me anything, other than the car being unavailable to me for a week."
Anonymous, ID (2016 Kia Sorento SXL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Losing oil but no oil leaks on the ground."
Anonymous, MA (2016 Kia Sorento SX 3.3-L V6)"I experienced the vehicle burning oil on a road trip. I took it to the Dealer and was told they would test it. They changed the oil and told me to come back in 1000 miles. I did and was told it was not burning oil. This continued for over two years. I took it back in February 2024 they said it was a head gasket and replaced it. two months later the engine failed. They finally replaced it."
Anonymous A., IL (2016 Kia Sorento EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Engine was leaking oil and I let it get too low before adding a quart of oil.Eventually the engine locked up and was unable to be driven. Engine had to be replaced."
Anonymous A., TX (2016 Kia Sorento L 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)"Engine began consuming oil a year ago, spent $600 for chemical scrub ofpistons, $400 for new oil gasket, but engine suddenly through a piston March 2024. Under warranty, but just now notified a new engine arrived, yet to be installed. All factory maintenance was done. An engine shouldn't die this young. We will sell it and have bought a Honda CRV Hybrid."
