    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Engine rebuild or replacement

"oil pump failure led to a need for a new engine."

Anonymous, NV (2017 Kia Sorento EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The car started losing oil about a year or two after I bought it. I was putting oil in it every 300-500 miles. Original dealer told me that it was acceptable to put oil in every 1,000 miles. Master cylinder replaced (if I remember correctly it cost me $4,000) after I needed to be towed off NYS Thruway 1 1/2 hours from my destination or home. Still had to put oil in. After having it break down again, and dealer I bought it from would not fix it under the bumper to bumper warranty, I had it towed to different dealer and after weeks of protocol they had to go through, the engine was replaced and it cost me $50 deductible."

Anonymous, (2017 Kia Sorento Unsure Unsure)

""The car just died and I had to have it towed to a dealership. They told me the piston was not covered under my warranty plan, but I later found out that this particular Kia Sorento is well known for having engine problems.""

Anonymous, PA (2017 Kia Sorento EX 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I Had to go through the oil consumption test twice. The second time I wrote Kia and explained when I purchased the vehicle, I was to bring it in for an oil change every 7,5oo miles. Now after 70,000 miles I needed to add 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. It failed the oil consumption test and I was told I would receive a new engine. They replaced it in three weeks with a remanufactured engine which was warrantied for 12 months.+"

    Anonymous A., (2017 Kia Sorento EX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

""I started noticing that my engine was making noises. My mechanic couldnt find the source of the problem. As time went on, I began to notice that my thermostat was sitting at a higher temperature, then was normal for my car. Again, we were not able to find a source of the problem. Suddenly, after idling for about five minutes in a line, my car began to overheat, and I took it immediately to my mechanic. At that point, it was determined that the head gasket blew at 125,xxx miles. My mechanic suggested that was extremely young for that type of problem and urged me to contact the manufacturer. I first reached out to the dealership and was told that I was out of luck and there was nothing I could do about it. I then reached out directly to the manufacturer at which point they told me that my VIN number specifically did have an extended warranty on my engine and to call the dealership back with a case number. I was instructed to have my vehicle towed there. After a few days, I was contacted by the dealership and it was confirmed that my engine did qualify for full warranty replacement at no cost to myself.""

Anonymous, MO (2017 Kia Sorento Unsure 3.3-L V6)

"Mileage was 9500 & engine died knocking pinging. Was supposed to be under warranty but because we were not original owners Kia would not warranty it & took 3 months to repaired from Jeff Wyler Kia and cost over $7000"

Anonymous, KY (2017 Kia Sorento SX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)
    Other major engine problem

"Oil consumption was excessive. Went thru a Kia protocol to fix the problem under warranty Was a known problem from Kia"

Anonymous, MO (2017 Kia Sorento SX Unsure)

"Engine uses an excessive amount of oil - a quart for every gasoline tank fill-up. That is about 388 miles."

Anonymous, NM (2017 Kia Sorento LX 2.4-L 4 Cyl)

"About a year ago I noticed that my engine oil was consistently low even after about a month after an oil change. Research indicated engine oil consumption problems but no recall. I contacted the dealership and started the process for an engine oil consumption test and they claimed they could not find any problems. I am still having this problem."

In addition to this problem, I would receive messages from neighbors, alerting me that my headlights were on while my car was in the driveway, even though I was not in it, and the ignition was not turned on. The setting was also set on auto during those times. While my vehicle was receiving a warranty replacement engine, I was notified that the manufacturer was also extending the warranty on the headlight arm, and that it was leading to problems with the automatic headlights. The dealership replaced that part and I have not had an issue since.""
