    Road Test

The boxy-looking Kia Soul is a tall, front-wheel-drive wagon. Packing a lot of room into its modest footprint, the KIa affords easy access and a spacious rear seat. Handling is secure, aided by standard electronic stability control. The 2.0-liter engine brings average acceleration and 25 mpg overall, which isn't anything special. Controls are simple but interior fit and finish is basic. Big windows allow very good front and side visibility, but thick rear roof pillars create rear blind zones. The Soul includes a lot of amenities, which partly offset its stiff ride, noisy cabin and compromised rear visibility.
