    First Take
The current Range Rover luxury SUV comes with a host of high-end amenities and safety features. Developed by former-owner BMW and powered by a BMW V8, it delivers smooth, strong acceleration; mechanical refinement; and a very comfortable ride, although handling isn't quite BMW-agile. For 2006 the BMW engine is replaced by a Jaguar-sourced V8. Even though it's now a unibody construction with a fully independent suspension, it remains good off-road. The seats are very comfortable, and the wood and leather interior is tasteful.
