    First Take
The GX470 is a new luxury SUV, sharing a platform with the redesigned Toyota 4Runner. It slots in size and price between the RX330 and the big LX470. Like the LX470, it's a body-on-frame design with a live rear axle. Taller than the 4Runner, it has three rows of seats. It shares the LX470's smooth and quiet engine and transmission as well as many of the LX's luxury appointments. The ride is very comfortable and quiet. Interior fit and finish is impressive. Full-time 4WD, height-adjustable suspension, a hill-descent feature (to control speed on downhill grades) and a system that prevents roll-back on steep ascents help make it competent off-road.
