"My car experiences "parasitic electrical drains or draws." The car has about 30 modules controlling various systems. Randomly, one or more of these modules "wakes" and then "shuts down." Because this "on-off" activity lasts for a few minutes or less and then sleeps for approximately 30 minutes or so. But because it is a random stealth problem, it is not easily detectable and depending on on the capability of the automotive technician, the identification and remediating the problem will result in an expensive service session using specialized equipment to identify the specific module(s) that has (have) failed. The "trigger" for the failure may come from any one of a number of sources such as a satellite continually checking the GPS of the vehicle's location. Each individual GPS check will not consume significant energy, however, if the car is not operated for several days at a time to recharge the battery, the battery will drain beyond its "re-chargeable" limit. I have had to replace our vehicle's battery three times in one year. My solution to address this random parasitic stealth drain problem has been to install a battery maintenance charger under the hood with an electrical lead through the grill. When I drive the car I disconnect the charger and then reconnect it when I park the car. So far, the battery has remained charged."
