    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Backup or other camera/sensors

"The backup cameral will occasionally go "wonky" or be very dim when the car is put in reverse. The only fix seems to be to turn the car off and crank it again. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to this issue."

    Anonymous A., NC (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Display screen freezes up

"Warning lights come on and then go off by themselves"

    Anonymous, ON (2018 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Display screen goes blank

"About 3-4 years after purchasing, the infotainment system started rebooting sporadically when cold. It has progressed to rebooting constantly for the first 30min of driving every time the car is cranked. The AM/FM radio is still operational but all other functions are useless during this time. The dealership would not give an estimate to resolve without a paid diagnostic. I tried paying to update the navigation SD card. This update solved the problem for about a month. It was not worth the $50 (approx.) update charge to try again."

    Anonymous A., NC (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"The display screen will get bright and dim at unexpected times, sometimes the radio controls will not work"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The display developed what looks like cracks in the glass, but are actually the interior surface of the lens peeling off. Other Mazdas have had similar issues, but only a few models have been subject to a recall. the 3 is not one of these."

    Anonymous, ON (2018 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Cruise control

"The resume function of the cruise control intermittently fails to operate. Instead of returning the car to the previously set speed, pushing the resume button results in setting the car speed to whatever speed the vehicle is currently traveling. Incredibly annoying, especially when easily resuming the former speed would have made it so much easier to focus on other critical driving tasks. The dealer says they can't reproduce the problem despite a Mazda mechanic riding with me as I repeatedly demonstrated the defect. Otherwise I love this car, but this defect annoys me to no end."

    Anonymous A., TX (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other electrical system problem

"The console between the seats disengages and drops down, often disconnecting some of the controls. It requires a whole new assembly to fix and is expensive. I have seen this happen in two separate Mazda 3 vehicles."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"$10 failed brake switch disables car"

    Anonymous A., CA (2018 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Tire pressure monitor

"comes on repeatedly, even after adjusting tire pressures and resetting the sensor, within a week it is flashing again"

    Anonymous, KY (2018 Mazda 3 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    USB port

"Output of USB port is woefully anemic and completely inadequate."

    Anonymous A., TX (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Mirrors

"passenger side exterior mirrow hood/cover fell off 3 times since purchase. dealer eventually replaced whole mirror"

Anonymous, OH (2018 Mazda 3 Sport Unsure)
    Other body problem

"The leather seat ripped on the drivers seat and showed that it wasnt leather but a leatherette on batting. Thats why it wripped so easily."

Anonymous, BC (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Heater system

"Was stuck on high heat I would not shut off"

    Anonymous A., FL (2018 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Refrigerant leaks

"Even when I add refrigerant it will not consistently blow cold air and especially on hot days"

Anonymous, MI (2018 Mazda 3 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

"Back up camera wiring only. Mazda recall announced but still not provided. Has not worked for 4 years!"

    Anonymous, ON (2018 Mazda 3 Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Anonymous A., NS (2018 Mazda 3 Unsure)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"At approximately 78000 miles the transmission blew out and had to be replaced"

    Anonymous, NY (2018 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Rough shifting

"Shortly after warranty period, car developed hard rough shifting as the automatic transmission went through the gears at all the shift points. High quality transmission shop had never seen such a situation in this type or age of car. Also, a routine transmission service had metal fillings ( of different metals, brass etc) found in the old fluid. Would require a $5-6000 fix for a car with book value of $10-12000."

    Anonymous A., NJ (2018 Mazda 3 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Other paint & trim problem

"I replaced exterior rear view cover when it just fell off. first time 4 months old. by third time dealer agreed the whole rear view mirrow had to be replacced as obviously was some kind of defect that allowed the slips to fail and the hood cover to fall off."
