"Unsafe LOW PROFILE TIRES: At 331 miles a front tire developed a bulge on the sidewall, probably because of low profile tires on the larger 18" rims -- NOT FIT for the purpose for which they are sold,i.e., driving on US streets that have potholes. (Only the base trim has durable tires of normal width on 16" rims.) Low profiles will presumably keep getting sidewall bubbles, presenting a risk of blowout. Russell & Smith, the Houston dealer won't even sell the base model, so you can't get safe tires on the vast majority of models -- all at this dealership. (Let's not even mention their mandatory $500 tint job and $300 mandatory anti-theft lug nuts. This dealership never warns the customer about what unusable, unreliable tires come on every model but the base and all _they_ sell (mine, the Select Sport is just one notch up from the base.) Why CR recommends these sedans with low profile tires is beyond me. I feel that this car will NEVER be safe on the roads, because such bad tires could develop bubbles and blow out at any time. I'd gladly exchange these unsafe tires for the smaller, cheaper 16" rims and tires, if I could. Replacing them will be expensive but probably worth the peace of mind. I've not yet been to the dealership. I'm rather disgusted with them and the car. I'll never buy another Mazda. Doesn't even have a 12 volt power plug."
