    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"Display jumps randomly between screens. Freezer up."

    Anonymous A., DE (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The infotainment system is completely unusable: it constantly reboots and yoyos between apps/functions. This is a known issue with the touch screen that Mazda will not warranty and the parts are no longer available."

Anonymous, TX (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

""Infotainment" touchscreen randomly makes selections without my input. (Ghost Touch) This causes the radio to switch stations, dial phone numbers, and set/delete favorites. It will also prevent me from making changes myself. This issue has almost caused more than one accident. I have had to pull off the road to address these issues."

Anonymous, FL (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"I noticed the touch screen would change channels on its own or rewind or fast forward songs by itself. Also the infotainment system restarts by itself. The issue started around February 2023. It got progressively worse and the dealer checked it in May 2024 and stated the term is called "ghosting". Replacing the touch screen is optional at a cost of $495. I opted not to change the screen and deal with the issue.i find it's only an issue in extreme temperatures (below 40 degrees or above 80 degrees)."

    Anonymous A., NY (2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Screen freezes & then jumps. Other peripherals attached [phone] also are interrupted, thus 'streaming' reflects screen [or vice versa]."

    Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda CX-5 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"system would reboot every couple of minutes. purchased an after market SD card and it solved the problem would have costs hundreds and hundreds at the dealer"

    Anonymous, NY (2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Electrical issues are a known issue for this year. Display screen will often not respond to touch buttons/controls."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Hardware replacement

"The Bluetooth and radio randomly cut off and restarted. It was replaced for about $3000 and has started doing the same thing."

    Anonymous, NC (2017 Mazda CX-5 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"It was very glitchy so I just took out the card from the slot. There is also a bug or virus where the channel randomly changes on the infotainment system"

Anonymous, MA (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Unsure)

"Navigation system often rebooted causing the display to stop functioning. Cost to repair was about $2000 so I removed the navigation chip which allowed other functions to work."

    Anonymous A., NC (2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Built-in navigation stopped working. Cost to repair was excessive. I use GPS through Apple car play instead."

    Anonymous A., CT (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"At the March 2024 maintenance check the navigation chip was found to be bad can't afford $500+ to replace"

    Anonymous A., (2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring)

"Screen buffering majority of the time and navigation can no longer be updated. Buy the updated software per dealers recommendation"

    Anonymous, (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"In the past few months, the in car display automatically jumps to different screen and options."

Anonymous, IL (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The system that controls navigation, apps, music, settings periodically takes over and changes volume, brightness, music channels, etc on its own. When this happens and you try to change the controls back, it fights you. You have to correct it repeatedly. Sometimes best to just turn it off or it will yell at you Navigation will now be at this volume which is the highest setting. Its like a ghost is in the car changing your settings, but it does not affect the driving. I googled it once and it said it was a bad SD card. Idk if that true or not. I just use my Apple Car Play when this happens."

Anonymous, LA (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring Unsure)

"infotainment system clicks through settings on its own. Improved by cleaning switch for infotainment system"

Anonymous, TN (2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"I just noticed within the last two weeks that my phone was not automatically pairing to my system. I would have to pair it manually but I noticed it was over 90 degrees when the pairing malfunctioned. I haven't had any issues when the temperature dropped under 85 degrees so far."

    Anonymous A., NY (2017 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Radio

"Radio stations randomly changed, AM, FM, Satelite"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Electrical issues are a known issue for this year. My radio will out of nowhere switch to other stations or not respond to touch buttons/controls."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Rust

"Roof panel had to be repaired and repainted because paint was blistering between windshield and the sunroof. I removed rear wheel well liners and found heavy scaly rust in front section of the rear wheel wells. Used compressed air to remove scaly rust and ended up with quarter sized holes on each side of wheel wells. Horrible to get in the car and have no heat or air conditioning and no blower last time it spontaneously started blowing all of a sudden twenty miles down the road after three power cycles. Only drive it once a week or less, noticed once in past six months but its almost summer!"

Contact with the muffler may damage the trailer wiring harness, potentially resulting in the trailer lighting being inoperative, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
    Summary:
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2017 CX-5 vehicles equipped with an accessory trailer hitch wiring harness. This harness may be routed such that there is insufficient clearance between the harness and the exhaust muffler, allowing the wiring harness to contact the muffler.
    What should you do:
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will reroute the trailer hitch harness away from the muffler, replacing the harness if it is damaged, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 20, 2018. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500. Mazda's number for this recall is 1617K.
