    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Android Auto

"Connection between Android Auto and navigation system is randomly lost. Cannot reconnect until car is stopped and placed in Park."

Anonymous, SC (2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"About 6 months ago My MotoG7 no longer interfaces with Android Auto, although other Android phones work with it when tested. All available updates have been researched and made, including dealership researched updates without resolution of the problem. Phone is older, will try when I buy a new phone. In addition, I'm very disappointed in the failure of the "infotainment" system and no resolution of the radio station ghosting: randomly changing stations. Was told the entire "screen" needs to be replaced. A five-year old vehicle requiring this costly replacement of a perk in this car is enough that I will not purchase another Mazda."

    Anonymous A., IL (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Apple CarPlay

"After being connected, it sometimes loses the connection - particularly frustrating when using maps."

    Anonymous, WA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Connection between Apple phone and navigation system is randomly lost. Can't reconnect until car is stopped and placed in Park. This is a real problem when navigating in unfamiliar territory."

Anonymous, SC (2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Display screen freezes up

"It has been something that happens a couple times a month and seems to only occur when I am stopped at a traffic light."

    Anonymous, MO (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Hardware replacement

"The radio would switch stations on its on and the GPS screen would rotate. It only happened at stops as the touch screen is locked out while driving. I found out the problem is called "ghost touch" the vehicle was out of warranty so I purchased the screen repair kit from an online Mazda parts dealer. After watching a YouTube video the screen replacement wasn't difficult and I was able to replace it in about 40 minutes sitting in the driveway with just routine hand tools."

Anonymous, NC (2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Ghost touch- radio changed stations without me - changed to GPS navigation, Sirius, etc without me touching controls at all. 2 visits to dealership - ultimately replacement of screen seems to have resolved it."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"We experienced functionality issues multiple times. The dealership finally replaced the display screen."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Heads-up display

"Display switches from radio to other modes uncommanded."

    Anonymous, NC (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    "Display would change between screen."

Anonymous, NC (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Intermittent screen changes when traveling. Usually jumps from radio to navigation. Sometimes changes navigation screen view ."

    Anonymous, NJ (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Periodically, I would notice that the radio would suddenly start scanning stations. It might take a few minutes to stop but might stop at a station not of my choosing. It would do this without me touching the radio or controls. When mentioned to the service person at the Mazda dealership they said it was called "ghosting" and it would cost about $1,000.00 to repair. I chose not to do anything about this. It's a nuisance but not worth $1,000 to fix at this time."

    Anonymous, FL (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The screen and radio will start to randomly skip around. Sometimes the volume will randomly turn up to the maximum level in addition to the stations skipping around"

    Anonymous A., FL (2019 Mazda CX-5)

"Random failure of the Link with Xm/Sirus satellite download when starting the car."

Anonymous, AZ (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The radio / display will change stations, settings, and visuals without owner input, not often but several times a year"

    Anonymous, GA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Radio

"About 6 months ago, the radio began and continues to randomly change stations, screen changes to display a "dial" image. Dealership said a new screen system is required, no other resolution is offered. All updates were researched at the dealership and all are, according to the dealer, up to date."

    Anonymous A., IL (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"As mentioned the screen and entertainment system will jump around. It occurs at least a few times per week. It started about a year and a half ago. Though it is a common problem, Mazda won't do anything to fix it unless I pay for the replacement module."

    Anonymous A., FL (2019 Mazda CX-5)

"Memory problems with "favorite stations" Forgets them. Forgets what station you were on when the engine is started."

    Anonymous, CA (2019 Mazda CX-5 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Random switching of channels, volume, navigation, etc. According to the dealer it is a common problem with Mazda's. My first Mazda dealer played dumb and wanted to charge me even though I had problems from the very beginning."

    Anonymous, CA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"it has a mind of its own concerning station selection."

Anonymous, FL (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"When iPhone connected to car and CarPlay in use, if you use the phone for something else, the radio forgets what its source is. You have to switch out of CarPlay into music and you see that neither AM,FM or Sirius is selected."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

"Mazda used inferior brake pads when the vehicle was built, resulting in the need to replace the pads under 15,000 miles."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rear brake pads wore prematurely because the brake rotors corroded so badly that they caused the pads to wear out much faster."

Anonymous, ON (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"At about 31,000 I took my Mazda in for an oil change and tire rotation and was notified that my rear brake linings needed replacing and rotors resurfacing for a cost of about $350. Based on a Mazda 3 that I previously owned and easily got over 120,000 per set of brakes, I thought this was excessive wear for the mileage. They said the front brakes were fine."

    Anonymous, FL (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Had to replace pads after 18000 miles. Routine driving."

Anonymous, VA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Signature 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Rear brakes wore out prior to 50K service."

Anonymous, GA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Pulsation or vibration

"Back brakes were sticking. On vacation. We went to a Mazda dealer where the provided a temporary repair and we had the brakes fixed when we returned home."

    Anonymous, PE (2019 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Rotors

"The rotors were replaced at 80,000 miles and again within 5,000 miles because they were vibrating upon braking."

    Anonymous A., MI (2019 Mazda CX-5 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Rear brake rotor prematurely corroded so badly that it was quickly wearing out the break pads. Same brakes were originally replaced at 18,000 Km."

Anonymous, ON (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Squeaking

"Squeaking began at 30k front breaks. Dealer says fine cant locate. The problem persists."

Anonymous, CA (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The original brakes never squeaked, but after the brakes were replaced at 80,000 miles they have squeaked continuously. I have been to the dealer three (3) times for this problem and they cannot fix it. They keep assuring me there is no premature brake wear but I am skeptical. It is annoying and embarrassing driving because they squeak all the time."

    Anonymous A., MI (2019 Mazda CX-5 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Cylinder head

"Oil light came on, and the car was immediately undrivable. Turns out for the year Mazda I Purchased, the company had used an inferior metal for the engine, resulting in a cracked cylinder head. Fortunately, the car was still under warranty, and the repair (a replacement of the head gasket) was paid for by Mazda."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Oil leak from cylinder head assembly at 46000 miles. Resolved by warranty repair."

Anonymous, MO (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"A cylinder head cracked in the engine, which required a major, costly and lengthy repair. Apparently there was a manufacturing fault that caused it. Fortunately we had bought an extended warranty"

Anonymous, ON (2019 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring)

"Engine was ticking and heads had to be changed."

    Anonymous, NM (2019 Mazda CX-5 Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
