What Owners Say
"The infotainment system is completely non-intuitive, often taking several steps to do something like turn the channel on the radio. Connecting the phone to the system through CarPlay is cumbersome and sometimes doesnt work at all. The infotainment system is actually a driving hazard."
Anonymous A., WA (2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"The system (with other without a phone connected) sends "ghost inputs". The display will periodically make selections. This has resulted in calls to people I didn't make (including a conference call between a doctor and my boss). It's constantly changing mapping software (settings and destinations have both been unselected or changed). And the "recurring behavior" is to eventually move to the settings screen and turn the brightness to zero so the screen is impossible to see. It started about 18 months after I bought the car. It's a known issue and a dealership claims to have replaced the system, but it never stopped and now I can't get it fixed without a major expense (over $1k). It's a massive distraction and have visual issues so the dash screen is critical for navigation (I can't always read street names on signs). Mechanically, the car is wonderful. But this issue is a constant reminder that a dealership only pretended to fix the issue and now I'm screwed."
Anonymous A., CO (2020 Mazda CX-5 Sport)"There is a known issue with Mazdas where the touchscreen will cause random inputs when driving. This can switch the menu screen, change music (pause, skip track, change input), etc."
Anonymous A., TX (2020 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"One month after the 3-year warranty ended, the in-vehicle screen, which operates many functions, developed a condition where functions jump around without input from the driver. A Mazda dealer told me it is known as "ghost touch," a problem well known to Mazda. Mazda has required that I have the dealership confirm the problem. The service advisor took a 15-minute ride with me and the problem did not recur. I have video recorded the problem. Despite that, Mazda has not accepted it. They require a dealership evaluation, which the dealer wants to charge about $250 for! So the problem has not been corrected. My daughter has the same vehicle, a 2020 CX-5, and she is now experiencing the same issue. I also have the same defect in my 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata!"
Anonymous A., CA (2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"The entertainment system will randomly change display, often. It's as if a ghost is pushing buttons. I do not want to take it back to Mazda because the car is no longer in warranty and I don't want to deal with the headache."
Anonymous, FL (2020 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"Multifunction /navigation touch screen "ghost touches" itself, and will scroll from screen to screen in no particular order. It is a well documented pattern failure in this car model."
Anonymous A., FL (2020 Mazda CX-5 Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)"I am unable to receive a phone call hands free, it does not connect."
Anonymous, MA (2020 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
"Sometimes it just didn't work. Even stopping the car and turning it completely off didn't reset the radio. I think it was ultimately fixed by a software update by the dealer."
