    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"Apple Carplay will only connect if it has a USB connection. It's supposed to be able to connect wirelessly"

    Anonymous A., NC (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Preferred 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Display screen freezes up

"intermittently, the screen stops working. This means we cannot use the camera, or any of the technology associated with this car (GPS, Android Auto, etc)"

    Anonymous, VA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Teh bluetooth an Apple play work when they want to. 25% of the time, the info tainment does not sync to my phone."

    Anonymous, FL (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Automatic climate control

"The AC blew hot during t longer trips. This was part of the overall error engine malfunction messages the car was throwing. The problem was corrected after 1.5 weeks at the dealer service department."

    Anonymous, MN (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"I can not figure out \how o adjust the a/c to an auto temperature."

    Anonymous, FL (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Other electrical system problem

"I start the car by pressing down on the brake pedal and pushing the start button, however, in about 5-10% of the starts, the car does not sense that I have pressed on the brake. In the vehicle screen in the instrument cluster I get a message that tells me that I need to press on the brake pedal and press the start button. I then shout out "I did press the brake" and then mash the brake pedal as hard as I can. As this is a PHEV, it is not that easy to see that the car has actually started (no engine sounds or other clues). This doesn't occur when I start any other cars (including multiple rental cars) so I know its the CX-90 and not me. This is frustrating!"

    Anonymous A., GA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Wireless charging pad

"The wireless charge pad is almost useless, the pad surface is too slick and level flat, so the item being charged moves. A magnetic charger would of been better."

    Anonymous, IL (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

Other major transmission & clutch problem

"Sometimes the transfer between the electric motor and the gas engine is very rough and creates a sudden acceleration peak. Especially when driving uphill. This may happen 60% of the time."

    Anonymous, NY (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"The windshield leaks. It's been fixed twice and we aren't sure it is fully resolved."

    Anonymous, VA (2024 Mazda CX-90 Plug-in Hybrid Premium Plus 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Bushings

"A creaking noise is heard many times when turning the car over an inclined slope. It sounds like some elements are rubbing against each other. The Mazda service personnel said the bushings needed more lubrication but it's presented the problem since the card reached approximately 1,500 miles. It's still doing the same even though they've checked it."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
