    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Exhaust leaks

"Engine noise started to get louder , fix was under the rear underneath of car by mechanic"

    Anonymous A., CA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 BlueTec 3.5-L V6)
    Other/unsure

    "electro-hydraulic steering mechanism failed."

    Anonymous A., GA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 5.5-L V8 turbo)

"Back-up camera works about 25% of the time."

    Anonymous, FL (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 BlueTec 3.5-L V6)

    "Wood trim came unglued"

    Anonymous, SC (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

"Front passenger airbag sensor visual alarm is always on. Drivers airbag sensor malfunctioned, and was repaired under a recall notice. MERCEDES-BENZ refuses to cover the passenger side malfunction. Since this is such a serious safety issue and clearly a malfunction, I believe MERCEDES-BENZ should pay for this repair. Drivers seat belt no longer retracts, and MERCEDES-BENZ also refuses to pay for this very critical safety issue."

    Anonymous A., AZ (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

    "Starter motor failed."

    Anonymous, TX (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E63 AMG 5.5-L V8 turbo)

"The wicker on the left side of the trunk lid was becoming detached."

    Anonymous, WA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 BlueTec 3.0-L V6 diesel)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Bushings

    "Wore out after 12 years."

    Anonymous A., NV (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 5.5-L V8 turbo)
    Electronic or air suspension

"My sport wagon has only been serviced by dealer. Over time, the vehicle stance became lower. Mentioned to dealer, and was told that this is normal because of sport and AMG packages. Then the wagon progressively displayed more messages about waiting for the vehicle to be raised prior to driving. Again, contacted dealer. After all the back-and-forth, by the time of the appointment when the suspension would be finally serviced, the air suspension failed on the interstate about 2 miles from the dealership. The vehicle chassis was nearly touching the ground. The delayed service not only made the repair more expensive (dealer even billed above MSRP for all parts), but also a dealer ignored safety issue."

    Anonymous, UT (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
    Other steering/suspension problem

"During routine maintanence the MB dealer advised that the rear suspension subtructure was corroded. MB then sent us a letter advising they were replacing this unit free of charge as a safety advisory. They then replaced the entire section including new springs. It was a full days work and parts by the MB service department. The car ran fine before the problem was noted and it continues to run fine after the repair."

    Anonymous A., RI (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 BlueTec 3.5-L V6)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Blower (fan) motor

"HVAC issues are known and discussed in previous service campaigns, from which I have yet to receive benefit. Latest issue is that whenever the HVAC is activated, the fan/blower continuously makes a loud and annoying squeaking/chirping sound. Until next service, its a choice between irritating noise or comfortable cabin temperature."

    Anonymous, UT (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
    Other climate system problem

"water pump had to be replaced recently - noticed blue stuff leaking - $3k i wasn't counting on - the car is 12 years old"

    Anonymous, TX (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 5.5-L V8 turbo)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    CV joint

"preventative maintenance due to age deterioration; problem resolved on routine maintenance visit"

    Anonymous A., GA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)
    Other driveline problem

"Engine mount wore out. I could drive it fine, but didnt want to take any chances. Problem was resolved at the dealership, but was an expensive fix."

    Anonymous A., NV (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E550 5.5-L V8 turbo)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"Shortly after buying this vehicle pre-owned at 65000 miles, we learned the radiator was leaking coolant into the transmission and that caused the transmission to need replacement. The cover under the bottom of car prevented us from discovering any leaks and we did not have a mechanic check the vehicle before purchase because we bought extended warranty. Very costly mistake."

    Anonymous, GA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

    "Sometimes it chatters while shifting"

    Anonymous, GA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

"Oil leak was discovered at a maintenance appointment. No sign of oil leaking in my garage because MERCEDES-BENZ has cover under engine that prevents driver from seeing fluids leak on ground. Oil leak from several areas as the integrity of the seals deteriorated before 100,000 miles. This was a major repair that costs about $9000 on a vehicle that was not worth $9000."

    Anonymous, GA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 3.5-L V6)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Other body problem

"Drivers seat had a seam fail. I replaced the seat bottom cushion."

    Anonymous, VA (2012 Mercedes-Benz E-Class E350 BlueTec 3.0-L V6 diesel)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
