What Owners Say
"Transmission stopped working. Full replacement necessary"
Anonymous, MT (2014 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)""I first noticed an issue with the transmission running at a higher RPM in August 2023 but my local mechanic couldn't find anything wrong. He changed the fluid but it didn't help. I was told later that was the WORST thing to do and that I should have been replacing the fluid every 15-30k miles as stated in the "rough" driving conditions section of the owner's manual because of the "delicate" CVT. Then I got a check engine warning light in May 2024 and the code indicated that the transmission was failing and it was "sticking" when it got hot, especially on long highway drives (which is 80% of my driving!). At first, I wasn't going to replace it because the repair would cost as much as the value of the car (around $7000). However, I changed my mind after not being to find any new(er) cars I liked for less than $50k! It was such an ordeal to find someone who could replace the Nissan CVT transmission though! I didn't feel like my local mechanic was up for such a big job, another local place had a 2-3 week wait just for an appointment to look at it, the local AAMCO sounded knowledgeable, but I got very suspicious when they demanded the $6000 "up front", and I had already had several bad experiences with my local dealer where I purchased the car. I ended up contacting another dealer further away who was excellent and offered to fix it at a lower price ($6600). He also confirmed my suspicions about AAMCO, said they probably wanted money up front and would just be looking for a salvage (not new) transmission! They also gave me a 12-month/12,000-mile warranty. I have gotten another year out of the car which is nice, it doesn't run the same as it used to so I definitely will NOT replace the transmission again (and will plan on buying a new car sooner rather than later).""
Anonymous, NJ (2014 Nissan Murano LE 3.5-L V6)"I had the car less than a year and it left me stranding on an exit ramp of a major interstate highway. I had to pay $8000 to have one rebuilt and it took about 5 weeks to get one in."
Anonymous A., MO (2014 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)""Transmission failed at approx. 130k miles, total replacement needed, purchased and installed at local transmission repair shop""
Anonymous, AR (2014 Nissan Murano Unsure 3.5-L V6)"It started approx. 9 mos. ago. Transmission would not shift appropriately at higher speeds."
Anonymous, MI (2014 Nissan Murano SL 3.5-L V6)""Bought 2014 Murano used in 2023. After about 4 months of driving, I had to replace the CVT transmission to the tune of $5,800.00 (including labor) for a new CVT transmission instead of a rebuilt transmission. Runs like a champ now.""
