The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Nissan Rogue owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"Failed in the summer. Spent about $800 to get it fixed."

Anonymous, PA (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Condenser

"AC is weak. It has be set on the coldest level to cool the car. This has been getting worse for some time. Cabin and air filters changed regularly. Heat is fine."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Refrigerant leaks

"Started in May. Experienced it one time. Resolved in early June."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The main refrigerant line was poorly designed such that it rubs against a nearby sharp piece of metal. Nissan put no foam or protection. After some years it wears through and releases all of the refrigerant into the environment. If we had to pay the labor rate for a mechanic to fix the car, we would have junked it. This renders the car unsafe to use for 8 months out of the year in Houston. Nissan knew of the issue. It should have been a recall, if nothing else, than for the environmental impact. The A/C line traverses the entire length of the car and required my mechanic to practically break his finger to put the new one in. The new part came with foam or rubber to protect it from rubbing against that nearby part. Nissan parts costs are a monopolistic market that sucks you dry. The computer for the cargo door costs about $1200. WHY does that door have its own computer?!!! I like the car when it works. Yet I will not buy a Nissan again unless we get Right to Repair laws in the U.S.and someone breaks up their predatory pricing of parts."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

Other major transmission & clutch problem

"This car is a hot mess. We're lucky that almost everything gets fixed with free labor. The engine idled rough since it was about 3 years old. The dealer's only solution was to replace the engine. Bottom line, 3 years later, we discovered it mostly needed a transmission fluid flush. This happened by accident, bc our son was learning how to change the oil. He accidentally drained the transmission fluid instead of the oil. The fluid was dirty. After we replaced the fluid, the engine performance improved noticeably. Our son made it a project of his to flush all the fluids, and get the engine light to go off. He began learning to become a mechanic. He had access to lifts, tools, experienced technicians, and a mechanics database. Now, the 10 year old car runs almost as quiet as a new car. It gets better gas mileage too. With 124,000 miles on it. All the Nissan dealer probably had to do was replace the transmission fluid and clean the throttle body, to fix our engine problems. Instead, they quoted us for an engine replacement. So I guess the problem is just as much the poor dealership service, as the transmission problems. Our son is a gifted mechanic now. He is the only reason we still have the car. There has been a litany of problems from the drivers seat getting stuck in one spot, to the windshield wipers running on their own and draining all the windshield wiper fluid. We haven't had working wiper fluid for 3 years bc we can't ask him to do everything. He also fixed the water leak problems by drilling out the incorrect drainage tube or whatever that was. The car used to hold water for weeks after heavy rains. That also should have been a recall. He disassembled the car seats and carpet to let it dry out completely. We can still use it for long trips and enjoy the comfortable front seats."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"This is apparently a known problem with Nissans. It was a $4000"

Anonymous, RI (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The transmission began slipping and occurred each time it was driven. We had it replaced and it was 5,000 past the warranty. We contacted Nissan and asked if they could at least help with the $6,500 cost even though it was just out of warranty. Nissan said they would not cover any of the cost and we were extremely disappointed in Nissan. Would avoid buying one again in the future."

Anonymous A., NJ (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Car began to have issues on hills. Let me down on a trip. Had to stop by the side of the road to be able to make it home. Cost about $4300. Would not buy another vehicle with this type of transmission!!!!"

Anonymous, PA (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"The infotainment system freezes at random times. Power off and on of the system doesn't help. Sometimes power off and on of the car doesn't help, but sometimes it does. Dealer mechanic cannot fix it."

Anonymous, SC (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Speakers

"Short in the wiring caused speaker to test working."

Anonymous, VA (2014 Nissan Rogue 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

Anonymous A., SC (2014 Nissan Rogue SL 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous A., MA (2014 Nissan Rogue SV 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Loose exterior trim or moldings

"All the exterior trim falls off and then you can see the very pour logic of engineering and substandard materials and manufacturing quality."

    Anonymous, IN (2014 Nissan Rogue S 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.
