The Aztek, introduced in the summer of 2000 as a 2001 model, is a crossover SUV based on the Montana minivan. Its available with front- or optional all-wheel drive. The engine is a perky 3.4-liter, 185-hp V6. The Aztek is clearly aimed at the active lifestyle crowd. Handy standard and optional features include removable plastic storage boxes, a removable center-console cooler, a slide-out cargo tray, and a tent that fits onto the rear of the vehicle. Negatives include so-so handling, a stiff and not-very-controlled ride in the GT, a rear seat thats too low, and a split rear gate thats a bit awkward to operate.
