Road Test

The lithe Boxster provides nimble, secure, and effortless handling. It managed a very fast speed through our accident-avoidance course. While the steering and chassis provide excellent feedback, the Boxster is a car that doesn't have to be driven fast to be fun to drive. Dropping the top is easy. The interior is nicely put together but Spartan.

Model History
2013-
Current Generation
An all-new Boxster arrived for 2013, with all of the attributes we loved about previous models, as well as a longer wheelbase, more power and a wider track. A seven-speed automated manual transmission is offered alongside the traditional six-speed manual. Handling is excellent, even with the electric steering and the ride is not punishing. Interior quality and refinement were improved. Standard safety equipment includes stability control, traction control, brake assist, and antilock brakes.
2005-2012
2005 Redesign Year
This sporty mid-engine roadster has agile handling, excellent brakes and precise steering. The ride is firm and well controlled, yet not punishing. Two trunks add a measue of practicality. The power top is easy to operate and works at up to 30 mph. For 2005, Porsche updated the interior and exterior styling, and boosted power in both the base and performance S versions. Model year 2007 brought further styling updates and power upgrades, as well as a six-speed gearbox for the base model. In 2009, Boxsters gained a revised engine design for more power, along with a seven-speed sequential-shift automated manual transmission.
1997-2004
1997 Redesign Year

This sporty mid-engine roadster started out with a 2.5-liter, 201-hp flat-six engine. The transmission is either a five-speed manual or five-speed Tiptronic automatic that you can shift manually. The Boxster's handling is superb, and its ride is acceptable. The engine and manual transmission are well matched and provide quick acceleration. A powered convertible soft top is standard, and is easy to operate. A quicker, 250-hp "S" model was introduced for 2000, and featured a six-speed transmission. The base engine, meanwhile, jumped to 2.7 liters.
