What Owners Say
"It has never worked for us, so we just use charging cables."

"Both of the 12v batteries (which power the electrical & auxiliary systems, not the car itself) died. We got numerous warnings from the vehicle system which would come & go. Spoke to Rivian about how to resolve the warning, they immediately offered to transport the truck to their service center 4 hours away over 2 mountain passes in winter. But then the error messages stopped. As holiday travel for us was approaching, we mutually decided to wait. After we returned from our Christmas trip, the vehicle was DOA. At that time, Rivian service couldnt contact the car over the internet because the car was dead so , they couldnt get further diagnostics. The nearest Rivian service centers were booked out 3+ months, so they scheduled us for a mobile appt 6 weeks out. We were offered a free rental car which we declined. A mobile service van arrived at our house (we live in a remote location) and the friendly, competent technician fixed the problem as well as resolved some of the outstanding recall issues. The issues here are because Rivian is new, novel car maker. Their service system, while excellent, has not yet scaled to the amount of vehicles now in use. Also, their design philosophy is to save the owner from any maintenance. This meant the 12v batteries couldnt be accessed or changed by the owner without voiding the warranty. I hope they change that in the future because it meant we were without that car for over 6 weeks."
