The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2022 Subaru Crosstrek owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"car play works then doesn't work"

Anonymous, NJ (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Display screen goes blank

"In the past year The App/radio Screen makes electronic screechy buzz noise & goes black & stays black for five-ten min. I have stopped & turned off motor & restarted does not correct it. After 30 min of sitting off it returns to "normal" but it will repeated do blackouts withing 45 min after the first blackout. The most being four total blackouts in an hour. Subi dealer has been unable to determine origin of blackout problem."

Anonymous, (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Screen malfunctions and will not respond, Subaru has been constantly issuing updates trying to fix the issue since it was brand new."

Anonymous, WA (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Unsure 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

""Subaru OnStar failed within 1 month of delivery of new vehicle. At least 5 visits to dealer to repair failure, most visits were wasted because of "part availability". Now, 2 years after purchase, it's finally working, but for how long? As for the rest of the vehicle, all systems are GO! I'm pleased with the AWD (part of why I purchased this car)""

Anonymous, CA (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid 2.0-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Bluetooth connection with phone drops frequently."

Anonymous A., NH (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Other body problem

"The driver seat cushion has developed a depression on one side for an unknown reason. I don't carry a wallet and never left any weighted object on the seat. I believe an internal cushion failed or fell out of place."

Anonymous A., NJ (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"I am a huge fan of consumer reports and I know Subaru is ranked number one which is the reason we bought our first Subaru. But we have had so many problems. The number one problem would be the transmission went out at almost exactly 100,000 miles. When you would ship from Park to drive or reverse etc. the car would lurch. Subaru said they could not fix it and could only replace the transmission at a cost of $8000. I have taken the car to a CVT transmission specialist and they have had it for one month trying to fix it. I still dont have it back. The cost is $3800. If they can fix it."

Anonymous A., TX (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"It failed under 40,000 miles. The engine shutoff system when the cars stop for stoplights or traffic is a burden here. The issue is that the cars shut off and sitting at a stoplight in the high heat and humidity is not safe. The battery struggles to restart the engine. It is a very ineffective system"

Anonymous, FL (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

    What Owners Say

    Thermostat

"I noticed a 30% drop in fuel economy coupled with noticeably less heat from the vent, all consistent with a faulty thermostat. Subaru claimed that this was within spec, and the service guy at Secor Subaru claimed that with 24K miles, my car was getting old and a drop in performance was to be expected."

Anonymous, (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Premium Unsure)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Fuel gauge/sender

    "Fuel gauge didnt work correctly"

Anonymous, HI (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Other paint & trim problem

""I dont know the root cause. I am very happy with my 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport other than for this loose piece of rubber molding that interfaces between the drivers door and the door frame. However, I do have some buyers remorse because I traded in my 2019 Toyota Prius Prime for the 2022 Subaru Crosstrek. I miss the fuel economy of the Prius Prime and it was so easy to drive and park. But even the Prius Prime was not perfect. The plastic housing for theAntennae and I think the drivers mirror plastic housing became damaged from reflective sunlight. At least that is what my Toyota dealership claimed when I brought this problem to their attention.""

Anonymous A., MD (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Blower (fan) motor

"Just after the warranty expired at 36,000 miles the fan knob stopped working. Its extremely sensitive and if you try to turn it up just one notch it will go to the maximum if you try to turn it down one notch it will go down to zero. Very frustrating. We did not have this fixed because the cost to maintain this car has been so incredibly high. Our 60,000 mile service was $1100. Our 100,000 mile service was $1200."

Anonymous A., TX (2022 Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Noises/Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Squeaks or rattles

"Many plastic parts/trim around the windows and body are loosely attached, and they rattle."
