    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"Dropped calls. Dealer ran software update but it required more than four hours to complete. This on a car less than 2 months old. And dealer claimed that they cant notify customers when updates are released."

Anonymous, NH (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited)

"Microphone randomly mutes the phone (mutes me). I can still hear the other person. Does not happen with my husband's Android. Dealer was unable to fix."

Anonymous A., TX (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Before the dealership fixed it half the time the phone would not automatically pair I would have to manually pair it"

Anonymous, TX (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited)
    Display screen freezes up

"The head unit display is slow to operate & connect to CarPlay the first minute to 5 minutes when car is started. This affect Csray, hvac and any other cotrols through head unit. Its a pain in the ads & can be a safety hazard when you cant turn on defrost system until it unfreezes"

Anonymous, ON (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Was on vacation far from home. Started the car after shopping, and the display screen froze completely. I could not control climate, could not use the radio, or many other functions. Also several safety systems (EyeSight and Rear Braking Assist) became disabled. Had to find a local dealer. Took it in, and they had to install an "audio unit software update" to fix it. This update resolved all issues (so far). Their service department was very accommodating to get it taken care of, and it was under warranty. But it is concerning that the system can completely freeze like this without warning. Hopefully this is a one-time thing."

Anonymous A., DE (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"all street names disappeared. So fAR DEALER HAS been unavailable to resolve. Awaiting update but basically useless"

Anonymous, KS (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Locking by door handle works sometimes. Some times not. Sometimes both passenger and driver heating/AC comes on with ignition. Sometimes only driver heating/AC comes on and passenger must be manually added."

Anonymous, CA (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited Unsure)

"The tilt of the large display screen frequently makes it unreadable during the day."

Anonymous, WI (2024 Subaru Crosstrek 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"phone doesn't always pair. When I hang up from a call the phone will dial another call by itself. This is bad because I call my sister when I drive to work for a midnight shift and calling someone at 11:45 pm is not very nice."

Anonymous A., NY (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Unsure)

"We paired my wife's Android phone using Bluetooth, and signed up for a trial Sirius subscription. Sirius started playing unwanted music on her phone, and phone alerts began to be very loudly displayed on the Starlink screen. Consulting the manual guides, it appeared that there may have been settings adjustments that would have eased the problems but we decided to unlink the phone and stop using the Sirius."

Anonymous, FL (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Vehicle recall on wiring harness in steering column"

Anonymous A., WA (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"I was pulled over and parked on the side of the road but had the car on and was listening to music through Apple CarPlay. All of a sudden, every light from the interior and headlights turned on, the doors locked and unlocked, but locked again, the radio turned on instead of Apple CarPlay, and a bunch of warning lights came on the dash. In the end, I had to get out of the car and lock it with my keychain, which of course made everything turn off. I unlocked it and re-entered the car and everything was fine and totally normal."

Anonymous, ON (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Wireless charging does not work reliably"

Anonymous, PA (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"(1)The air conditioner is not powerful enough to cool the car quicky on a hot day, 85 degrees. In contrast the Hyundai Tucson cools the car in seconds even after staying outside in the hot sun. I had the car checked but we are told the AC is working normally. (2) Also, the AC is quite noisy. (3) the door openings are not high enough, I have hit my head more than a couple of times."

Anonymous, CA (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited)

    "Electrical harness affecting Starlink service"

Anonymous A., TX (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Again, sometimes the lock/unlock in the exterior door handle works, sometimes not"

Anonymous, CA (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited Unsure)

"My wife was at the grocery store when she wanted to open the door, it didn't work with the key, she opened it with the my subaru iphone application. once inside the alarm system is activated, message of non-recognition of key, no key recognition,I went to the vehicle with the other key, everything worked. When I got home I tried the key and everything worked. I took the car to the dealership to check, they found nothing.they changed the key battery. However i check the voltage of the old battery it was o.k. First time I've been stuck with a car. I hope it's the last"

Anonymous, QC (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other electrical system problem

"I bought the car new june 17 one week later couldn't open doors with key buttons so I used the key to get then it would not start. After about ten times turning the key it started. This happened twice so I took back to the dealership they kept it overnight and said it was fine, I went to leave and the same thing happened. Two days later they called and said it needed a new keyless remote module that would take two weeks to get. Two weeks later they called and said that was not the problem that it needed a new wire harness in the dash that would take 4 weeks to get. Now it is seven weeks after buying a brand new car and I still don't have it back. They gave me a loaner car to use but this is ridiculious. My other two subarus I owned were great cars that's why I bought another but I don't think I'll ever buy another one now."

Anonymous, PA (2024 Subaru Crosstrek Base 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
