    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

""Unit developed oil leak near clutch. System remained pressurized but stopped operating after compressor failed. Replaced compressor, condenser, etc with aftermarket unit. The replacement failed (similar issue- oil leak at clutch noted before failure) and was replaced under warranty ($300 charge for freon).""

"Stopped cooling in hot weather. Took 2 attempts to get it fixed."

    Anonymous, OR (2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0i 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Refrigerant leaks

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission sensor or solenoid

""This seems to be a known issue with Subarus of this vintage. Clearing the code only lasted a week before the vehicle would enter limp mode with a series of error lights along with the check engine light. The repair cost at the dealership was over $2300.00 and was followed up a month later with error codes the dealer failed to disclose while in for the solenoid issue. Wheel bearings were done last year, due to noise and a TSB I located online that pointed to the problem. The lower control arms were replaced this year since the solenoid repair. And now the ABS light and hill park assist lights come on suggesting to me there is a wheel speed sensor issue. This car has cost more in repairs than my previous 3 Toyotas added together. I love the AWD but regret the purchase due to the repair costs. After all that work the dealer I bought it from offer $2k as a trade in value""

Anonymous, WI (2014 Subaru Impreza Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

""Subarus apparently have issues with the head gaskets leaking oil after a period of time. I had this with my 2002 Impreza after 10 years. At the time, was planning to keep the car and opted to have it repaired, which came to about $4k because the engine needs to be removed. (it's one of those "while you have it out ..." type things where you end up doing the timing belt, water pump, and clutch.) Fast forward to the current (2014) car - during my last maintenance at the dealer (2023), they mentioned the head gaskets were leaking oil. Repair would be similar: pull the engine to replace the gaskets. Since it's leaking about a quart between changes, I've just kept ensuring it's topped off. I hate that it's doing it, but $4k is a lot of money. Also with the 2014 car, a few years after purchasing it (and still under 30k miles), the quick oil change place let us know the transmission was leaking fluid. Brought to dealer who agreed it was a defect and replaced at no cost (including giving us a loaner for three weeks). Despite Subaru Imprezas ranking high on the maintenance history, I would be leery of purchasing another one (especially now with Tariffs).""

    Anonymous, WA (2014 Subaru Impreza 2.0i 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    EXTERIOR LIGHTING
    Feb 28, 2019
Brake lights that do not illuminate properly will not alert other drivers that the vehicle is slowing or stopping, increasing the risk of crash.
    Summary:
Subaru of America, Inc. (Subaru) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Forester, 2008-2016 Impreza sedans, 2012-2016 Impreza station wagons, 2008-2014 WRX sedans (including STI), and 2013-2017 Crosstrek vehicles. Exposure to certain contaminants may cause the brake light switch to malfunction, preventing the brake lights from illuminating and also preventing keyless ignition vehicles from starting and CVT/automatic transmissions from being able to be shifted out of Park.
    What should you do:
Subaru will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake light switch, free of charge. The recall began April 15, 2019. Owners may contact Subaru customer service at 1-844-373-6614. Subaru's number for this recall is WUE-90.
