Right seek/scan ceased functioning, although steering wheel control did adjust accordingly Replaced with pristine 2018 Impreza OEM device for $150"

Anonymous A., MN (2017 Subaru Impreza Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"The whole head unit just died and went blank, so no stereo no backup cameras no navigation and some internal controls were lost. It took four visits to Subaru to have it replaced first time they ordered the wrong parts. Second time I showed up they took it out of the box showing it was from a scrap yard where all the wires have been cut off third time the unit they brought was all scratched with a cracked cracked up screen also from the scrap yard finally on the fourth visit before I showed up I called make sure everything was ready and they promised it was and finally was done, still not hundred percent but better than nothing"

"Tires were constantly giving me trouble the first few years. Slow leaks. Turned out to be a minor issue- defective stems on all four tires- but the dealership kept telling me they couldnt find a leak. After several trips to the dealership and many emergency stops at gas stations, finally went to a firestone that solved the mystery."

    What Owners Say

    Calipers

"We noticed the problem when the front of the car vibrated or shook pretty violently either when we brake, we turn, we drive at a certain speed (around 60 MPH) or a combination of these. I couldn't see a specific problem, so I had my mechanic look. He showed me that the right front disk had been severely overheated and said it appears the caliper was not releasing as it should some times. He suggested replacing the caliper (not cheap!). We did so and haven't had any problems with it for the several months since then."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Subaru Impreza Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Premature brake wear

The repair took several visits and months to get all the parts replaced. Ultimately the entire headline module was replaced along with a vertical motion sensor and some sort of controller module. Subaru did cover much of the expense as they could not fix it on the first try."

Anonymous, PA (2017 Subaru Impreza Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Other electrical system problem

"Ignition/transmission interlock failed. Ignition system couldnt detect car was in park. Couldnt remove keys or start engine. Required extensive repair under warranty."

    What Owners Say

    Loose interior trim or moldings

"The 2nd time the center console cover/armrest seemed to mottle or dimple as if I had put undue pressure on it. They replaced it and I expect it will continue to happen. It appeared as if it was a response to heat or some exposure. Unknown reason, no reason given, however that it happened twice and that they replaced without question, alludes to a known issue, they just don't admit to."

    What Owners Say

    Driveshaft or axle

"A noisy bearing on one of the rear wheels. It didn't stop me, but perhaps there was a risk of a failure that would have made the car unusable. Probably the result of a pothole, and not really a weakness of the vehicle."

    Anonymous, QC (2017 Subaru Impreza 2.0i 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Transmission rebuild or replacement

"The transmission was replaced under an aftermarket warranty at the Subaru dealership. They replaced it with the wrong transmission. My car had paddle shifters the transmission they installed, did not, and they tried to blame it on me for not telling them I had paddle shifters. Eventually, they took the old modules from a transmission that they took out of my car and installed into my new transmission. They also try to blame me for a transmission issues as I had something other than a Subaru transmission fluid installed even though it met Subaru specifications. Had to get a letter from mobile oil with all the specification and criteria showing that it met their criteria, even though it was a different colour"

Anonymous, ON (2017 Subaru Impreza Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
