    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2020 Subaru Impreza owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Android Auto

"Android Auto disconnects at random. Sometimes wiggling the cable to the USB connector in the console causes the issue. The dealer said he fixed thi, but it still occurs. Resetting the radio to factory defaults usually fixes the problem."

    Anonymous A., MD (2020 Subaru Impreza 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Really annoying that you can only connect with a cord. Often the car will stop thinking something's plugged in, switch to radio, then realize the phone is plugged in and switch back to Android Auto."

Anonymous, WA (2020 Subaru Impreza 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"OTA update failed after downloading and the system restarted. After clicking restart on error message, the screen would go blank (but it clearly on). It would take at least 30 minutes after turning off the car for the screen to fully turn off. When restarting the car afterwards, the software would then work again on the previous version."

Anonymous, NY (2020 Subaru Impreza Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"I have an android. Sometimes I can link my phone and see the GPS on the car's screen. Most of the time, it takes three or four tries to get it to link. Terrible"

Anonymous, OH (2020 Subaru Impreza Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Speakers

"When using bluetooth with the car's speakers, I have to turn the sound up to 32/33 out of 35 just to hear the person on the phone. Worst speakers ever"

Anonymous, OH (2020 Subaru Impreza Sport 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Rotors

"Vibration started when applying the brakes. On the 3rd trip to the dealer they chose to replace all 4 rotors."

    Anonymous A., MD (2020 Subaru Impreza 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Squeaking

"Still learning to use anti-lock brakes"

Anonymous A., TN (2020 Subaru Impreza Limited 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"Car smelled bad with moldy/mildew smell. Car had excessive water collecting in front doors when car was parked facing uphill on sloped driveway. Dealer replaced door window seals on both front doors. Smell still evident. Found that rear hatch seal leaked water that slowly collected in spare tire well. Created mold and mildew smell. Dealer at first thought it the sunroof drain was clogged but clearing that did not resolve the problem. I had to identify where the leak was myself. They replaced the rear hatch seal which fixed the problem. This was all done under warranty."

Anonymous, NJ (2020 Subaru Impreza Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl)
    Squeaks or rattles

Anonymous, OR (2020 Subaru Impreza 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

"Oil Pan broke and needed to be replaced. Didnt notice until went for oil change and immediately got it fixed"

    Anonymous, (2020 Subaru Impreza 2.0i 2.0-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

"An oil leak was discovered during routine maintenance, I took the car in to the dealership to have the oil changed, tires rotated, etc. and they discovered an oil leak from the head gaskets. This required a lengthy repair, I was without the car for approximately a week. The dealership did provide a loaner car at no cost, which was excellent. This issue was also covered by the warranty."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
