    "Does not work at all"

Anonymous, CA (2020 Subaru Outback Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

""Most of the time Android Auto will not even connect, so I use Waze instead. Android Auto freezes up or is slow to update my location as I drive so I may miss the turns. When it works it is nice. The updates are few and far between and notice about them comes to me from other sources rather than Subaru. When it first acted up I went to the dealer and the service manager told me it was my phone and they could not help. But, I asked a young man in the service department if he could help and he got it to work.""

    Other in-car electronics problem

"I have been stranded twice. Car wouldn't start. The Subaru dealership told me I needed a new battery even though mine was only 2 years old. They said it was the wrong size. I bought a new battery and 2 weeks later the car wouldn't start again and I was stranded and had to have it towed. As of now they don't know what the problem is"

Anonymous A., CA (2020 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Issues with the infotainment center began within the first two years of ownership. There is a known issue with Subaru and they have yet to resolve the problem."

Anonymous, CA (2020 Subaru Outback Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"I feel that every owner is a beta tester for their junk software. The software is unstable and VERY glichy. Last night for example, I walked toward my car and used the key fob to unlock the doors. when I got to the car and put my hand on the handle it relocked. then the fight starts to see what hand handle combination will unlock the door. Then there is the issue of what combination it will take to get the hatch door to open. the best option appears to be to stand behind the car and use the key as the button sometimes is inop. and waving your hand at various locations in the back is a total waste of time! The cars main screen goes blank upon start up and will go out at times even after the car is running. The radio "forgets" what station it was set to! I always wonder if the engine is going to keep running or stop in the middle of the road when these events occur! In general the car is a good machine BUT the software sucks! I can not recommend the Subaru to other people because of these issues."

Anonymous, OR (2020 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"It doesnt connect like its supposed to, and thus, Im forced to go into the dealership and pay $150 or more for any updates."

"When you select the pre-set for the far upper left or far lower right, the large screen of all pre-set buttons disappear. It only shows the ONE station and sound controls. No way to navigate to any other pre-sets. It happens the most on Sirius. I have to change to AM and then back to Sirius to fix it. It happens ALL OF THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I told the dealer, but it was never fixed. Very annoying."

Anonymous, (2020 Subaru Outback Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Had problems on all 4 Yokohama tires. As I had done a tire rotation in 11,000 km instead of 10,000 km the Subaru dealership nor Yokohama would not even replace the tires prorated. Even worse, I had their service department check for noise( I didnt know it was tire noise) twice in 8 months and they said everything was fine. Incompetent service department. I bought new tires at Costco and while trying to get them installed found out the Subaru dealership had not replaced the special lug nut the last time they had rotated the tires. There was another Subaru dealer close to the Costco store hoping to get new lug nuts replaced, it would have taken them a few minutes, but no I had to make an appointment. I told them the background but they were not very sympathetic. So 1 incompetent service department and another not very friendly one turned me off Subaru."

""The turbo worked well until the 60K maintenance including spark plugs. Afterwards driving on a highway at about 55 MPH, the motor RPMs revved when accelerating to about 60 but the car slowed down. Not a safe situation. The local Subaru dealer in Madison, WI will try to fix it starting Monday 5/19/25. Other major problem at about 25K the transmission had to be replaced and was in for service about a month. "CVT experienced judder when downshifting under light acceleration within the 3 year 36K warranty. Dealer said normal. I insisted notes be made in my service record. By 57K CVT was obviously worse and the transmission fluid was burned and discolored. Subaru replaced the entire CVT for free under extended warranty. I think the CVT was defective from the get-go. This car has a turbo which may be too much for a CVT. I am a senior driver who does not drive aggressively."

    What Owners Say

    Alignment

""During a seasonal switch from from winter to summer wheelset, my tire shop technician noticed high amount of wear to the inside shoulders of some of my tires. I had to replace one of the summer tires due to extreme wear in that location. Per his suggestion, I took the Outback to an alignment specialist. Turns out that the cause was increased toe-out and highly negative camber on a rear wheel. Per the alignment specialists experience, this is a common problem in 2020 and newer Subaru Outbacks.
