    Reliability

    Predicted Reliability

The 2025 Outback is more reliable than other cars from the same model year.

    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2025 Subaru Outback owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

""there was a recall that affected the electronics for apple play- I was notified, brought it in to the dealer and repaired at no cost- no problem buyt I like and need apple car play!""

Anonymous, IL (2025 Subaru Outback Unsure 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Display screen freezes up

"Screen is often slow to show the choice you made such as shutting down the auto-shutdown feature for car when you come to a stop."

Anonymous, NC (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Delay response to touch screen input"

Anonymous A., PA (2025 Subaru Outback Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

Anonymous, TX (2025 Subaru Outback Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The entire display froze and even with a suggested restart it didn't begin working right away. Took multiple tries to fix it."

Anonymous, IA (2025 Subaru Outback Onyx Edition Unsure)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Problem with the sound system that was fixed with a software update."

Anonymous, OK (2025 Subaru Outback Unsure 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Even with the EQ tone controls reducing the high frequency (treble) audio, the system is too 'bright'. Also, the display of Artist/Title on MP3 (or other format) audio via USB does not indicate the performing artist correctly. It displays the 'Album Artist' which is undesirable, particularly on albums with multiple (various) artists. That is frustrating. Not a deal changer, but significant."

Anonymous, TX (2025 Subaru Outback Unsure 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Awkward phone pairing. With CarPlay (recommended by Subaru) my calls sometimes go silent for 10-15 seconds (but person on the other end can still hear me). I dont love the screen options for advancing to the next song, changing playlist."

Anonymous, PA (2025 Subaru Outback Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"cannot delete favorite numbers which I did mot choose"

Anonymous, NJ (2025 Subaru Outback Wilderness 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Braking in cold weather: the vehicle lurches forward when on the brake and almost stopped. Subaru has not responded to me."

Anonymous, IL (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Firmware reset as the car was hesitating on acceleration. There was also a recall that required a reset"

Anonymous, NH (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    "Windshield cracked too easily"

Anonymous, MO (2025 Subaru Outback Premium 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

""Around 6,000 miles, noticed a chip at the base of windshield. Didn't notice right away since obscured by wiper blade. Unfortunately, chip had one vein of extension so entire windshield needed to be repaired. Wholly covered since the policy I purchased with vehicle only covers chips. I paid $500 deductible repair around $1,200""

Anonymous, MD (2025 Subaru Outback Onyx Edition Unsure)

"Windshield was broken by a rock from a construction vehicle"

Anonymous, OK (2025 Subaru Outback Touring 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Doors or sliding doors

""The driver's side rear door doesn't close smoothly, like the other three, and it's easy to mistakenly only close it partially. We took it back to the dealer, who said it needed a new door actuator, and they're now in the process of replacing it (bigger job -- need to remove the door panel, etc.). This should have been discovered at the factory, or at the dealer before selling it, and we aren't pleased.""

Anonymous A., NC (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Sunroof

""When we first tried the sunroof, it was very difficult to close properly, since pressing the switch a little too long would cause the sunroof not only to close but then continue tilting up -- ditto trying to go in the other direction. In the end, we had to get out of the car and look at the roof of the car to ensure that the sunroof was properly closed. Also, when fully opening the sunroof, a "crunch" sound was heard as it approached the stop. We took it back to the dealer, who determined that a cable had gotten caught in the rails (?) and needed to be replaced, and so far the car has been out of commission for six days (big job as they need to remove the headliner, etc.). We are not pleased.""

Anonymous A., NC (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The car battery has gone dead 2 times requiring a jump start."

Anonymous, VA (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    Other climate system problem

"On days at or above 85 degrees, a/c takes a long time to cool car and must be on max. The cooling seats are really just ventilated and do zero to help me cool or or avoid sticking to seats. The vent next to the steering wheels for a/c is useless. It cools my hand sometimes."

Anonymous, PA (2025 Subaru Outback Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Refrigerant leaks

"It either leaked or was underfilled with coolant from the factory. After only 500 miles it stopped cooling."

Anonymous, NC (2025 Subaru Outback XT 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    What Owners Say

"Driver and passenger front seat cooling fan motors have bad motor bearings. The problem began immediately. A "rattling" noise is consistent. Taken to the Dealership for motor replacement 5 times. All of the replacement motors have bad bearings."

Anonymous, PA (2025 Subaru Outback Touring 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Shocks or struts

"Started at about 1,000 miles. Heard a clink in the rear of the car turning and going over certain bumps. Thought it was just something loose. However, the strut had an internal leak. The dealership also had to put in subframe spacers that were missing at the time of manufacture."
