    What Owners Say

    Other noises & leaks problem

""tires run out pretty fast, too much Money spent on it""

Anonymous, PA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"I had to replace the right upper control arm of the right front wheel because it was squeaking like crazy. I read this is a common problem. I bought the part off eBay and did it myself in about 3 hours costing me only about 90 dollars and no more squeaks !"

Anonymous A., VT (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"Please note I have only ONE 2018 Tesla Model 3. I don't know why the site is saying I have two."

Anonymous A., VT (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

""while driving can hear some squeaks in the back, not sure where, very irritating.""

Anonymous, PA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"Squeak when turning or going over bumps from front right of car"

Anonymous A., OH (2018 Tesla Model 3 Unsure Electric)

"Front control arms had to be replaced - were squeaking loudly every time the steering wheel was turned. Repair from dealer through was only about $200 to replace control arms."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"Squeak or groan seems to be in the front driver side suspension. It has not been resolved yet."

Anonymous, AL (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"The support for the front wheels developed squeaking due to water infiltration. Had to remove wheels and manually manipulate to lubricate the joint. Home repair."

Anonymous, VA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance Electric)

    "makes noises/ squeaks"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

""This has been ongoing for several years. Unclear where exactly it's coming from, but every time I drive on an uneven road, it rattles.""

Anonymous, CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"Sometimes during software updates the GPS map will freeze up or start giving directions to things not commanded. Noticed this after Elon was more political. Hopefully the bugs will get smoothed out if he steps back into his company instead of politics."

Anonymous, NC (2018 Tesla Model 3 Standard Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"I am receiving on-screen error messages telling me about safety restraint system faults for both front seats. It's unclear what the specific issue is."

Anonymous A., CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"Car started to show a warning flag for a safety issue with the front passenger seat. This occurred even when the seat was empty. Tesla service center fixed it but it cost me $700.00 (seven hundred dollars)."

Anonymous, WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

""When the car was new, I could listen to music on the USB jump drive with no problem. When I got in the car, it would start up right where it left off. Sometime in 2019 a software upgrade broke the ability to start the USB automatically. I had to start the USB music manually and pick the place I wanted it to start. Last year the USB started to work again sporadically. With every software upgrade, it would work a little bit differently. I called Tesla and paid $110 to have somebody come out and tell me a bunch of lies. They said Tesla didnt support the USB anymore and it was going away. With my own research, I found that there is a voice command of play USB that will start the USB right where it left off. Thats a whole lot better than its been for six years, but it would still be nice if it would start automatically. When I get in the car, it tells me to choose my media. They could go one step more since they know that it was the USB I was listening to. They could start it for me. As far as I know, there is no button that I can press to do the same thing as the voice command. Which means if I have no cell phone service it doesnt work.""

Anonymous A., OR (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"Over-the-air update failed to load after multiple attempts (this happened only once). Had to bring vehicle into service center."

Anonymous A., NM (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Intermittent failure to pair with the phone. Unpredictable as to when it would not allow me into the car. Then had to reset phone key. Became very frustrating. Tesla service center could not fix the problem. Sometimes the doors open right away and other times I have to pair the car with the phone- as time goes on this gets more aggravating"

Anonymous, WA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

""Bluetooth voice quality was horrible, worse they ANY car I used in the last 20 years. There is constant noise on the other end and the interior noise inside the car also made it much more difficult to talk. I had to use Apple AirPods to use the phone while driving. Really nasty.""

Anonymous A., CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

Anonymous, CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Standard Electric)
    Problem with on-board inverter

"I charge both at home on Level 1 charging and at Tesla Superchargers (Level 3). I experienced problems trying to supercharge after charging at home. The car would not charge at all leaving me stranded hours from home in another city. Telsa support was very helpful but ultimately resulted in the car being towed to Tesla and an inverter having to be replaced for approximately $1000."

Anonymous, TN (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
Problem with the charging cable/cord that came with this vehicle

"Charging interrupted due to detected ground fault. Sometimes resolved on its own, or required replugging the charge port, or replugging the connection to the electrical outlet."

    What Owners Say

Anonymous A., MN (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

""We had a three day power outage, 10F outside. I rolled the windows down in the garage, engaged camp mode and cranked the heat to keep the garage from freezing, but did some damage to the heating system somehow as the heat stopped working after that. Tesla service didnt fix it (I wanted them to, even at my expense) but instead made some config changes on my car and told me I have to keep the temperature heat under 75 and fan on at least medium and no charge for that.""

Anonymous, OR (2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance Electric)

""Heater shorted out, which drained and broke the 12V battery. Didn't know until my car would not wake up to unlock (got a momentary 12V battery alarm prior). Car had to be towed to nearest service center.""

Anonymous A., NY (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

Anonymous, CA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)
    Other steering/suspension problem

"About 45000 miles hear creaking noise when turning steering wheel. Got louder with more miles. Tesla replaced parts. Cost $2000. Only major service in the 6 years of ownership. Tesla replaced the small 12 volt battery at about the 2 year age for $20 (parts and labor)."

Anonymous A., VA (2018 Tesla Model 3 Long Range Electric)

"There was a loud rattle in my rear suspension whenever I drove on uneven roads. I started hearing it in August 2024 and it was fixed in September 2024. They replaced both upper rear suspension links. I was also told the front suspension had torn bushings, but I declined the repair as it wasn't causing a problem and it was going to be another $1000."

Anonymous, OH (2018 Tesla Model 3 Performance Electric)
