    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Tesla Model S owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"The Tesla Model S Navigation System messaged me the 12 battery "must be" replaced immediately, or I risk it not starting. I complied. I had no issues other than the warning message to replace the 12 V battery, a very expensive Tesla proprietary part. I requested the Testa Service Center show me supporting test results confirming the battery was failing. They had none - stating they just followed the warning message & replaced them. Two months later, I got the identical Navigation screen message telling me to replace the 12 V battery. The second warning message was removed from my screen by the Tesla service Center resetting the computer."

    Anonymous, (2015 Tesla Model S 70D Electric)

"The main battery needed the fuse replaced. The 12v battery needed to be replaced."

    Anonymous A., OR (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)
    Keyless entry

"I repaired the driver's side front door latch myself & was surprised to learn I was replaced previously with an upgraded (2017) unit. The upgraded unit was seized, apparently from water on the door latch motor. As the "new" owner I washed it regularly with a pressure washer. The sheet metal door latch passage is not sealed from water. It appears I ruined the motor with the wash water. I purchased a new upgraded unit off Ebay."

    Anonymous, (2015 Tesla Model S 70D Electric)

    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"Seal of the sunroof leaks. Water drips in and on to the driver's seat. Problem occurs in heavy or extended rains and, of course, in a car-wash. Tesla looked at and thought they'd fixed it. Nope. We just keep a towel in the car now."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)
    Seals and/or weather-stripping

"The previous text explained this issue."

Anonymous, WA (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)

"The sun/moon roof seal has come loose and causes a leak in a car wash."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Hardware replacement

"upgraded computer and screen - now works more smoothly"

    Anonymous A., OH (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"The screens (main and driver's side) leaked glue causing bubbling, difficulty seeing parts of the screen (a real safety issue) and caused and large mess that the dealer poorly cleaned, and I am still dealing with."

Anonymous, VA (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)

"The screen starting leaking a glue like substance. To fix it, it required the infotainment upgrade, cost $2800 out of pocket. The car was out of warranty to it was not covered. A car that costs as much as Teslas do, should hold up better than that. In addition the battery is losing range. New the range was 238 miles on a full charge. 9 years in range is down to 222-226."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Tesla Model S 70D Electric)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Power steering

"The power steering just gave out one day but after stopping the car and starting it later, there was no problem It was scary enough that we took it in to Tesla and they confirmed a problem with the steering. I wish I could remember more about what if was exactly. I don't remember specifics but it cost thousands to fix."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Tesla Model S 70D Electric)
    Shocks or struts

"they popped on the road to almost the ground.and the car lowered"

Anonymous, NV (2015 Tesla Model S 85D Electric)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    Other driveline problem

"Rear Large Drive Unit leaked coolant into the electric drive causing it to rust. Replaced under Tesla 8-year driveline warranty just before warranty expired. Known issue that Tesla has now corrected in their latest -U revision of their Rear Large Drive Unit that deletes coolant from part of the Rear Large Drive Unit bypassing the known leaky coolant seal"

    Anonymous A., CA (2015 Tesla Model S P85D Electric)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Parking brake

"The parking brakes are automatic when the vehicle is put into park. For some reason they ceased engaging at some point. I believe the little motors that control them went bad."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Tesla Model S 70D Electric)

    EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

    What Owners Say
