The Camry delivers smooth, dependable transportation skewed toward comfort and convenience.
Its 2015 freshening offered upgraded interior electronics, more intuitive controls, reduced cabin noise, suspension tweaks, and more interesting exterior styling. Because of the popularity of the sporty SE trim, Toyota added a higher level XSE and SE Hybrid.
Despite the marketing hype and revised grille, the updated Camry remained pretty much the same as before. All powertrains -- the 2.5-liter, 178-hp four-cylinder, the optional 3.5-liter, 268-hp V6, and the 200-hp four-cylinder hybrid -- carried over from the previous model. The hybrid delivered an impressive 38 mpg overall in our tests. The V6 models also return very competitive fuel economy at 26 mpg overall. The popular base four-cylinder is pretty good at 28 mpg.
The Camry holds its own among family sedans with responsive and secure handling. The interior is relatively quiet and the ride soaks up bumps without much complaining. There's plenty of room inside and controls are easy to use, except for some tight-packed touch-screen buttons. All Camrys come well-equipped, with a backup camera and a power driver's seat as standard equipment.
Each of our tested Camrys -- the LE four-cylinder, XLE Hybrid, and XLE V6 -- score within a few points of each other and cater to a wide spectrum of buyers, from the green-oriented hybrid to the semi-luxurious V6.
