    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2016 Toyota Camry owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Bluetooth would work intermittently, cycling every 30 or so seconds. The fix involved putting the car into Accessory mode on the ignition, holding the settings button on the stereo and flipping the headlights on and off 3 times. That allowed the stereo to go into a service mode. On there you press "reinitialize" on the touch screen then turn the car off and back on. After that the bluetooth worked perfectly fine and still does to this day."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Radio

"I clicked "RADIO", but I'll clarify that most of my other complaints are combined as one name, it's the whole screen, & everything to do with it. first was occasional when it got below 30ish degrees at night, this was right after I bought it. From then on it was intermittent on a regular basis until now. Currently it does a continuous cycle of the gray screen/s. I got all the tests I could done to no avail. So clearing: all these issues are combined with this one, GPS, Disp. screen goes blank, hardware replacement(cannot afford the cost new or the risk of something like ebay), heads up disp, music dev, other electronics means ETune was the worst functioning item from the get go, then as time went along...... not better but much worse. Haven't seen it work in 4 years, digital seems to be going away, most stations do not work."

Anonymous A., SC (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The radio turns itself on at times like someone has touched the screen. When the radio is playing, the screen is beeping and flashing as if someone is touching the screen trying to preset the radio stations. This sometimes causes the radio to switch stations without touching the screen. This also has disabled the radio and volume controls on the steering wheel and on the touchscreen."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Steering wheel controls

"The steering wheel controls work sometimes and the touch screen is not working most of the time. Often have to reset clock."

Anonymous A., CA (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Tires needed replacing due to repeated flats and broken TMP valve"

Anonymous, MD (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    "Drivers seat heater stopped working"

Anonymous, AB (2016 Toyota Camry XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Diagnostic error with fuel system kept coming up on dashboard every 5 months. Replaced the fuel cap and problem went awayso far"

Anonymous, UT (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

    "Needed a new compressor."

Anonymous, MA (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"The AC Comp went out around the 6th year, in my opinion that is a very short operational problem, from a 60 yr old man that's very short life. dealer gave max $100 military discount on a $4200 job."

Anonymous A., SC (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Other climate system problem

"Compressor would not activate unless flow sensor was hit with small object. Toyota does not sell the flow sensor, only entire compressor. Found Dorman flow sensor for $25 and was able to replace myself, it was a pain but it works now."

Anonymous, NJ (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Other minor transmission & clutch problem

"Noise under car at certain levels of acceleration - exhaust line issue was suspected but not confirmed. The noise went away after the transmission fluid was flushed and filled."

Anonymous A., OR (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Internal sensor went bad. Cost $6,400 to fix. Transmission replaced because labor to break apart original transmission to get at sensor as much as replacing entire transmission with 50K mile used transmission. Why bury a sensor so deep in unit that cost to replace $400 sensor same as installing new transmission?"

    Anonymous A., CA (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Other electrical system problem

"Door locks lock/unlock intermittently (and randomly = different doors/different days) when activated both keyless operation as well as the armrest switches. Very annoying and random."

Anonymous, TX (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)
    Tire pressure monitor

"Had to have the tire pressure monitors batteries replaced."

Anonymous, CA (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Evidently the 2016 models have had issues with peeling paint. I havent done anything about it yet."

Anonymous A., CT (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Certain spots on the vehicle randomly apoear that make it look like a corrosive agent was dropped on it."

Anonymous, UT (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Other emissions/fuel system problem

"After the first refueling there was a check engine light. I took it to my independent mechanic. Should have used dealer in this case. Independent took three tries with several days diagnostic time each. Only corrected with final OEM part. Other than this incident my independent is still my go to for maintenance."

Anonymous, OH (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

"Fuel Line O-Ring had to be replaced due to leakage (gas smell after any trip)."

Anonymous, TX (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Rotors

"Brake rotors warp rapidly even when brakes are not ridden nor do we live on a hill that requires frequent braking. Rotors are not Toyota quality or should be designed to be larger if that would avoid the warping process. This is a routine Camry problem as we have had the same issue with prior Camrys we have owned."

Anonymous, UT (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Transmission Major

Transmission rebuild or replacement, torque converter, premature clutch replacement.

    What Owners Say

    Torque converter

"The torque converter started to shutter when the engine gets to around 1500 RPM and the vehicle is traveling around 40 mph. This causes a vibration like you are driving on a brick road."

Anonymous, PA (2016 Toyota Camry SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Drive System

Driveshaft or axle, CV joint, differential, transfer case, four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive components, driveline vibration, electrical failure, traction control, electronic stability control.

    What Owners Say

    Driveshaft or axle

"Rattle noise over small bumps and clicking while making rt turn at slow speeds. Constant complaint for last 15 months. Replaced parts bushings and complete driver side axil."

Anonymous A., NY (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

"Front end rattle over bumps for 15 months replaced with other front end parts to resolve issue."

Anonymous A., NY (2016 Toyota Camry LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"During long periods of rain, just sitting in the driveway, water accumulates under the driver's seat. Seats stay dry. Appears to be a leak in the sunroof drain system in the B pillar."

Anonymous A., WV (2016 Toyota Camry XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl)

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Other major engine problem

"Minor oil leakage around the timing cover. Decided to repair it instead of taking the chance of it getting worse. Had water pump and serpentine belt replaced, however, the mechanic said they were fine but did not want to have another major labor cost to get repaired later since car did have over 100K miles on the originals. Very labor intensive was the main cost. Other than the regular oil changes car has been excellent in the 8 and a half years owning."

Anonymous, OK (2016 Toyota Camry XLE 3.5-L V6)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.
