    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Toyota Highlander owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Android Auto

"I had to turn phone off and reboot to connect. Bluetooth took several attempts."

Anonymous, ON (2023 Toyota Highlander Platinum 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"You cannot save a destination by personal name, e.g. Abigale Smith, only by destination address. No one at the dealer could overcome this problem and Toyota America HQ confirmed it couldn't either. Try going to visit a friend in Atlanta, a chaotic traffic city, which has uncountable variations of "Peachtree" streets. I consider the navigator pretty close to worthless."

Anonymous A., FL (2023 Toyota Highlander XLE 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"I had a Samsung 3 flip 5g phone that would not work with the car. They basically said buy a new phone. This phone was 1 year old and 1500 when new. I could see this issue with older phones but the problem is just the opposite. You have to pair a phone so the car knows who's driving, not that it matters much."

Anonymous A., FL (2023 Toyota Highlander XLE 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Radio

"My 2017 Corolla radio displays artist and song title over radio played. 2023 toyota highlander did away with artist and song title display over radio."

Anonymous, ON (2023 Toyota Highlander Platinum 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Engine computer

"Check engine light came on, as well as warnings about advance safety features being disabled. Took to dealer who reprogrammed ECU under warranty with no charge."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Toyota Highlander Limited 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"My 2023 Highlander would hesitate several times then surge/lunge forward. That caused me to hit a curb. After researching the hesitation and surging when accelerating, I discovered there is a Technical Service Bulletin for this which reprograms the ECM. I have only driven a couple short trips and it seems better, but time will tell."

Anonymous A., IN (2023 Toyota Highlander Platinum 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other minor engine problem

"I just realized this was not normal and I havent taken it to the dealer to address it yet"

Anonymous, DE (2023 Toyota Highlander XLE 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"At a complete stop you depress the gas petal to take off and the car hesitates, every time. This could be dangerous if you are an aggressive driver, I am not. Toyota knows about the problem but doesn't have a fix for it yet. I identified this problem within the first 30 days of owning the car. I allow for this so I never pull out in front of anyone where this could cause me an issue."

Anonymous A., FL (2023 Toyota Highlander XLE 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

Anonymous, ON (2023 Toyota Highlander XLE 2.4-L 4 Cyl turbo)
