Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Toyota Prius C owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

/ 5

What Owners Say

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Car system kept losing contact with my phone. It was an intermittent problem but I was never a huge fan of the system so I had it replaced"

Anonymous, OR (2014 Toyota Prius C Three 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The problem was intermittent. The radio nor music player or navigation would simply cut out or disappear entirely. I resolved it by buying a new sound system unit"

Anonymous, OR (2014 Toyota Prius C Three 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

EV Battery

Electric/hybrid battery pack failure, replacement or malfunction, or cooling.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

"A technician at an oil change place pulled a relay that connects the two batteries, and it was apparently designed in such a way that it could be reinserted backwards(?) (Per the dealership mechanic who fixed the problem.) This caused the 12V to drain completely once the weather got cold. When the 12V died, cells in the hybrid battery froze. The fix was easy and cheap at the dealership -- they pulled the frozen cells and thawed them -- but the vehicle had to be towed there."

Anonymous A., MN (2014 Toyota Prius C Four 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Electric/hybrid battery pack replacement

"The original battery pack with no longer holding any charge. The entire battery hybrid pack needed to be replaced."

Anonymous, CA (2014 Toyota Prius C 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

/ 5

What Owners Say

12V battery

"The 12v battery just reached the end of its natural life. We boosted the car, drove it to our repair shop and it cost a few hundred dollars to replace it."

Anonymous A., ON (2014 Toyota Prius C Four 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"See my other comment; the hybrid and 12V battery problems were interrelated."

Anonymous A., MN (2014 Toyota Prius C Four 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Other/unsure

"water collection in one of the wheel areas that caused rust."

Anonymous, IL (2014 Toyota Prius C Two 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

Paint/Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"The paint is faded and completely gone in spots, likely due to a lack of washing/waxing over it's lifetime"

Anonymous, UT (2014 Toyota Prius C One 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

/ 5

What Owners Say

Water pump

"I purchased this vehicle from the dealership on December 15th, 2023. The mileage was 38,600. After about 20,000 miles in 2.5 months, driving Uber, the water pump failed. Likely cause is the coolant was never drained and filled since new until the water pump failed. Other that that, this car is a champ."

Anonymous A., SD (2014 Toyota Prius C Two 1.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
