    12V battery

    "Recharged 12v battery"

Anonymous, OR (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Premium 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

""In April 2025, one morning the car would not start. Had it towed to dealer. Battery was discharged""

Anonymous, MA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"The 12 volt battery failed. It was 7 years old. I am not concerned about it. I did have to buy the replacement at a dealership because it is an odd size and the retail parts houses did not stock it. It also failed without warning and was locked into the last settings I had so climate fans were on full and such so there was nothing I could do to reduce the load on the battery and possibly let the car turn on."

Anonymous A., CA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Interior lights

"Lights do not come in when you open doors"

Anonymous, NY (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Other electrical system problem

"Car would cascade errors on start: hybrid battery error, braking error, etc. Power steering/brakes not working. Took 7 weeks and $5000 to find wiring harness was chewed by mice. Once replaced, car runs great."

Anonymous, NM (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Premium 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    USB port

"Stopped working after the car was about five years old"

Anonymous, NC (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Unsure 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

Anonymous, VA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Unsure 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Display screen freezes up

""The display screen often freezes when I pair my iPhone and try to play music through Pandora. The music will often start, then stop, then re-start. This can happen 3 or 4 times in a row. Sometimes I turn the car off and restart it to solve the problem.""

Anonymous A., CO (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Premium 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"Because the speech to text is so bad, you must type in address in a janky system, the fields for street name and number not where you'd expect, etc. It is unclear how to use the display map."

Anonymous, VA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Unsure 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"CLOCK SETTINGS = H = HOUR M= MINUTE WERE PUSH BUTTONS ON OUR OLD CAR BUT ON 2017 THEY ARE BURRIED IN COMPLEX SETTINGS = PUSH BUTTONS = UP DOWN RIGHT LEFT THEN ????"

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

""The usb charger port will not charge an iPhone. We tried with multiple phones and it will not even keep up with consumption if you use the nav system. The Qi pad doesn't work either - it will charge a set of iPods but not a phone, Toyota said that is how it works. We had to purchase an adapter and use the cigarette lighter style plug to charge the phone.""

Anonymous, VA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

    What Owners Say

    Loose exterior trim or moldings

"3-4 yrs. ago I skidded into a snowbank. When I backed out the wet snow pulled the left front fender loose. I've been able to press the edge of the fender back so that there is a small gap on the proximal edge of the left front fender"

    Anonymous A., (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Unsure 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"Front side panel has been loose since we bought it. Now a rear side panel appears to be loose."

Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"the panels on the rear window on both sides of the car peeled. Toyota said it wasn't a defect and offered to sell them to us for about $150 each. We didn't think these plastic panels should have peeled."

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

Anonymous A., NY (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Unsure 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Blower (fan) motor

"Electrical system became disconnected under the car. The alert system went on to stop driving as system overheating. aI was towed 90 miles. Toyota service found that cooling fan electrical system was disconnected under the car. They were unclear how this would have occurred. Toyota dealer said connection was not broken and must have been disconnected or disconnected and incompletely reconnected possibly with a car servicing while elevated during a previous servicing."

Anonymous, CA (2017 Toyota Prius Prime Advanced 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

An initial mechanic found the coolant empty, but missed the compressor crack, recharged the coolant, and a few days later the problem reappeared. Next took it to Toyota dealer, who diagnosed problem, replaced compressor; now all works fine.""
