    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Toyota Prius V owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"The infotainment system would freeze up when driving and using the map navigation. This happens regularly and almost happens for certain when driving longer distances. The map would freeze up, and then the entire infotainment system would reboot while I'm driving. After the reboot it'd go back to the map. There doesn't seem to be a regular cadence to the amount of time elapsed between reboots and it's not clear what's triggering the problem."

Anonymous, OH (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Sometimes in hot weather the display screen freezes up and the touch controls do not work. Turning the ignition off and then on fixes it."

    Anonymous A., VA (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The problem has persisted since I purchased the car new. I took it back to the dealer and complained to Toyota, but they refused to resolve the issue."

    Anonymous A., OH (2015 Toyota Prius V Four 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Auxiliary 12-volt battery needed replacement; lasted 9 years, which is good enough."

Anonymous, ON (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    "My catalitic converter was stolen"

Anonymous, OR (2015 Toyota Prius V Four 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Tire pressure sensor malfunctioning and requiring replacement"

Anonymous, CT (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Calipers

"Calipers froze and would not open and close on I forget the front or the backend.I have had the same problem on my 2004 Toyota Sienna multiple times. End up replacing the discs,Calipers, and pads."

    Anonymous A., NJ (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Rotors

"NON-oem replacement parts used last year. Mechanic recognized the issue and replaced for free under his warranty with Toyota parts."

    Anonymous A., CA (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Problem(s) fueling the tank

"Starting in about 2023, the car would not show that it filled to full fuel after I fill up at the pump. When the gas pump stops fueling, the gas indicator always shows 1 or 2 bars below full. This happened consistently and I wasn't sure if it was really not filling to full or it was just a problem with the fuel gauge. I took it to the Toyota dealer and they did an inspection and found no issues. They said they can only replace the entire fuel tank and sensor assembly as a single unit and it would cost thousands of dollars. Since I can still drive the car and fill up as needed, I didn't replace the tank but it's reduced my driving range."

Anonymous, OH (2015 Toyota Prius V Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Other paint & trim problem

"The molding in the top roof gutter came loose in a car wash. We were able to tuck it back in (it didn't break off), but it happened one more time in a car wash. Then once at high speed on the freeway it came flying loose and flapping. We pulled over and taped it down, later gluing it with automotive adhesive. We haven't had further problems, but we have avoided car washes, manually washing at home instead."

    Anonymous, (2015 Toyota Prius V 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Engine Electrical

Alternator, starter, hybrid battery replacement, hybrid battery related systems, regular battery, battery cables, engine harness, coil, ignition switch, electronic ignition, spark plugs and wires failure, auto stop/start.

    What Owners Say

    Spark plugs or wires failure

"I had a breakdown problem with the number one cylinder that was attributed to the need to replace the coil and plug. Curiously, these had been replaced in the number one cylinder previously. And no engine lights came on when the engine rattled and couldn't be driven."

Anonymous, RI (2015 Toyota Prius V Four 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM
    Jun 24, 2020
An unexpected hybrid power system shut down may increase the risk of a crash.
    Summary:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Prius and 2014-2017 Prius V vehicles not included in recall 18V-684. Excessive voltage in the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) within the inverter may cause the hybrid system to shut down, causing the vehicle to stall while being driven.
    What should you do:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update for the hybrid system. If the vehicle has experienced an inverter failure with certain hybrid system faults related to this condition, the inverter assembly will be repaired or replaced, prior to software update. All repairs will be performed free of charge. This recall began July 24, 2020. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's number for this recall is 20TB10 / 20TA10.

As a result, the passenger air bag may not deploy in a vehicle crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
    What should you do:
Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will re-calibrate of the OCS system, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
