The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2015 Toyota Prius owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"We love our Prius, but the following is why we won't buy another. Because it is a hybrid, the battery goes out often because we travel and it doesn't stay charged through the time we are gone ."

Anonymous, MI (2015 Toyota Prius 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    "Had to recharge battery"

Anonymous, NJ (2015 Toyota Prius Four 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Cold winter temperatures caused battery to go dead -certain features on the car are always drawing in the 12v even when it is not in use . Also the location in the rear of the car and doors that wont unlock without the 12v make it ridiculously difficult to access the battery. Needed to keep trickle charger on 12v in cold temps and this was ridiculously inconvenient."

Anonymous, (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Headlights

"Both headlights burned out within a month of each other. Standard bulbs."

Anonymous A., MO (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Keyless entry

"it cost over $100 to repair"

Anonymous A., CA (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Other in-car electronics problem

"The tire pressure monitor lit up, and would not go away even after re-pressurizing all tires. I was told that it will take around $400 to replace one battery. And soon after that will make the other tire batteries to fail, bringing a total to $1,600-$1,700. For a 9-yr old car, that was too much, so I decided to not change any tire sensor batteries."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Prius 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"I can hear the person calling me, but they cannot hear me. The dealer said it would cost $4000 to fix. I have not fixed it"

    Anonymous, WA (2015 Toyota Prius Plug-in 1.8-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"Blue tooth pairing will not work at all. Also, plugging in the phone no longer works."

Anonymous, TX (2015 Toyota Prius 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Radio

"Radio does not get reception for certain frequencies"

Anonymous, WI (2015 Toyota Prius Two 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Paint And Trim

Paint (fading, chalking, peeling, or cracking), loose interior or exterior trim or moldings, rust.

    What Owners Say

    Loose exterior trim or moldings

"The pieces that fall off of the bottom become a hazard to driving on roads and freeways. The clips that hold these pieces on are cheap and break easily. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
Paint (fading, chalking, cracking, or peeling)

"Paint is peeling off the front of the car. About a year ago paint started cracking and blistering. Much worse now"

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Prius Two 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The exterior roof paint is fading."

Anonymous, SC (2015 Toyota Prius Two 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Car is often left outside during the day in Florida rains. Roof does not completely drain water, and paint has now cracked with evidence of rust."

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Prius Five 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Steering And Suspension

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

Anonymous, HI (2015 Toyota Prius Four 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other steering/suspension problem

Anonymous, FL (2015 Toyota Prius Persona Series 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Shocks or struts

"Wheel speed sensor failed necessitating wheel bearing replacement."

Anonymous A., NY (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Catalytic converter

"The catalytic converter was stolen on this vehicle and was not covered by insurance. The part was extremely expensive to replace and there is not an easy way to guarantee that it is not stolen again. Have to carry more insurance on the vehicle and hope it does not happen again."

Anonymous, CA (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Exhaust leaks

"Because of catalytic converter thefts,we had the dealer install a theft-defeating apparatus.Evidently someone still tried to steal the c.c.,and while the apparatus worked, and the c.c. stayed intact,an accompanying piece of the car was damaged, and this resulted in the coolant line leaking out.So it has to be refilled daily.Due to a supply chain problem,we've been waiting 5 months for the part to arrive."

Anonymous, MD (2015 Toyota Prius 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other/unsure

    "The 12 volt battery died."

Anonymous A., NC (2015 Toyota Prius Three 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Premature brake wear

"The problem was resolved when the brake pads and rotors were replaced, but it seemed premature for that to happen"

Anonymous A., ME (2015 Toyota Prius Five 1.8-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Regular brake failure

"Diminished power braking. I was able to drive home slowly under no power braking. Toyota towed the car and repaired the brake system."
