    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"When using apple car play, the system would freeze when using Waze and Apple music at the same time. The car was stil under warranty at the time and the dealer fixed it with a software update."

Anonymous, MA (2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"i can't remember...but dealer charged almost $400 to fix problem."

Anonymous, IL (2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"It began about a year and a half ago and it refused to allow me to send text messages that I spoke over the phone using the car system. Etune 3. I can make phone calls I can receive phone calls I can receive texts I can send text as long as I used a quick response button but if I attempt to send a text that I speak manually in the car it will not do it"

Anonymous, NJ (2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The fuse was blown in the unit that was needed to get my car registered and to check its emissions. The unit had never been used - this was the first re-registration since purchase. Easily fixed by a mechanic, but cost $ and time."

Anonymous, OR (2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Over-the-air software update failed

"The data communication module attempted to download software updates but ran into a perpetual loop that completely drained the battery overnight. This occurred in mid-April 2024 and required that the car be towed to the dealer, who had to completely replace the battery and update the software manually. It turns out there is a class action lawsuit in progress for this "parasitic battery drain" issue, which Toyota knew about in 2020 when we purchased the car, but Toyota did not disclose it before we bought the car."

Anonymous, WI (2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Radio

"Seal problem which caused erosion on the hybrid harness causing AM radio no to function. Toyota replaced the harness and correct the seal issue."

Anonymous, MA (2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Several months ago, AM radio reception deteriorated dramatically (heavy static, diminished clarity, often unintelligible) but only when the car was in gear (forward or reverse). Service Dept. staff at the Toyota Dealer told me there was nothing they could do about this other than replace the entire radio unit. The vehicle is no longer under warranty, so I have not done this. My wife and I rely on local traffic reports every 10 minutes which are only available on an AM radio station. FM radio reception is still excellent."

    EV Battery

    What Owners Say

Electric/hybrid battery pack malfunction (didn't need replacement)

The did not know how long it was going to take for the parts to arrive and it ended up being more than two months. While we were waiting for the parts to arrive the vehicle quit completely. The work was covered under warrenty, but we had to pay for the vehicle to be towed to the shop about 50 miles away."

    What Owners Say
