    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Apple CarPlay

"Apple Car Play will not always come up when phone is plugged in upon starting the car. You have to start the car before plugging in the phone or it wont connect to Apple Play. If it wont connect, there is no built in GPS or other systems you would use with the Apple play. If it doesnt connect, you have to disconnect the phone, turn off the car, put the car in park, open the door, close the door, turn the car back on, and then plug the phone in. Multiple times at the dealer and they say its due to Toyota not being able to keep up with all of the Android and Apple phone updates. They did a firmware update on the system, and it does this less often (multiple times per week now instead of multiple times per day) and it also disconnects from Apple Play while driving less frequently."

Anonymous, MO (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"For most of the lifetime of the car, Spotify has issues with Apple CarPlay. The steering wheel volume and skip buttons dont work and sometimes tapping on the screen does nothing. This usually resolves with unplugging and reattaching my phone"

    Anonymous A., TX (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The newer Apple IPhones do not match well with the Toyota Appleplay I was told. Toyota indicated they are attempting to find a patch for this problem. This infotainment system has poor radio reception. Terrible. My older 2020 Camry has much better reception."

Anonymous, NH (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Phone would be connected to car and CarPlay would randomly disconnect. Resolve was to jiggle the cord to the USB A side and it would work again. Issue only arose after an IOS update. Frequency of the issue is much less chronic. Happens once every other week vs 3-5 times a day."

Anonymous, CA (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Display screen freezes up

"This issue is related to problems with Appleplay not pairing with newer Apple phones."

Anonymous, NH (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Display screen goes blank

"When it is above 70 degrees the display screen will intermittently go blank. Had it to the dealer x2. First was told that the design caused the display screen to overheat (many people were bringing in for the same problem) and were getting Toyota to send a new one. New one never showed up. When servicing vehicle a few months later (scheduled oil/maintenance) asked about it, and they said its a defect and Toyota hasnt been able to provide a fix for it yet. They also said the issues with Apple Play sometimes not turning on is an IT issue that Toyota is working on and will provided in a firmware update when they figure it out (it is happening less with the Apple Play not connecting issue, but still happens.)"

Anonymous, MO (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid SE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Display screen stopped working, so no radio, also the usb ports stopped working - its taking 3 weeks to get the part in to the dealership- but is supposed to be fixed next week"

Anonymous, WI (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"Everytime I start my car, Toyota flashes their is no connections. Please reset your password. There is no internet connection. Which is so frustrating! Dealer was not interest in problem."

Anonymous, CA (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid LE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Other/unsure

"Sun roof shattered while driving. No provocation noted. Toyota did not pay for replacement. Car was a year old at the time."

Anonymous, CO (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"The tires that Toyota provides when you purchase a new vehicle are not well-constructed. We have a tire that is leaking air. Both Toyota and an independent tire shop have told us that there is no problem with the tire. The tire has been rotated and continues to lose inflation- no matter to which part of the car it rotates. I am looking forward to replacing the Toyota tires."

Anonymous, CA (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"Cruise control will quit when pressing increase speed, Rain sensor when on, wipers can go crazy with low or little rain. Radar sensor front needs to be often cleaned to allow for other functions to work properly."

Anonymous, GA (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

"All problems are consistent, but Toyota and dealer did work extremely well with me in trying to resolve the issues."

Anonymous, GA (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    12V battery

"Took it to a drive-in movie theatre with FM radio for movie audio. Vehicle automatically shut off every 20 minutes and eventually battery died. Learned a lesson to bring an FM radio next time - but there are no cautions or instructions for bringing Toyota Hybrids to drive-in movies!"

    Remote engine starter

    "Battery fail and was replaced"

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Antilock braking system (ABS)

"The abs system was very easily triggered including when going over potholes. Despite taking it to the dealership multiple times they reported nothing was wrong with it."

Anonymous, MI (2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE 2.5-L 4 Cyl hybrid)
    Premature brake wear

"I felt pulling a strange handling early on. At 15K miles they said that my rear rotors and break lining were waring! They said it was due to "rust" and I would to have the rotors changed AND IT WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS RUST!! I said this is the 7th car I have owned that has been parked in the exact same place and that NO other car had rusted rotors (ALSO THE FRONT ROTOS ON THE RAV4 WERE FINE.) I said the brakes are sticking a waring down the rotors. ((interesting that on the printout of the service that day they listed the front brake linings were listed as "8" but they left the rear brake lining blank.) 3 months later at a 19K service they said I needed to replace the rear pads and rotors! The front brake lining was still at 8 the left rear was at 5, and the right rear was at 1!! That is was due to rust and not covered by warranty. I once again said this was due to brakes pressing on rotors while driving. (I paid for the rear brake job.) In April 13 2024 I was driving to Oneonta (40 miles) & the car was driving erratically. When I turned off the radio I heard a grinding. When I got there I saw the right rear break was locked on the rotor & I could not release it. (Burnt my hand when I touched the rotorduh.)THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT. Drove straight to the Toyota Empire Dealershipwhere I bought it, but they were closed. Called them Monday 4/15. They said they could take the car on the 18th. They it was safe to drive even though the brake was locked on the rotor. I immediately called the main company to file a complaint regarding the faulty braking system on basically a new car. This time Empire fixed this under warranty but refuse to reimburse me the $484. for the brake job in November. The mothership office said they would give me a voucher for $250. for future work done at a Toyota Dealership. I also mentioned that sometime the rear hatch would not open automatically that I had to push it up with my hands, to resistance, & a couple of times I looked out to see the rear hatch had opened by itself. That the warning system for approaching cars did not work at all for the 1st year. Also, the windshield wipers sometimes would suddenly jump to a high speed in a drizzle of rain, and during a downpour suddenly move one arc in 2 seconds, and sometimes the high beam lights turned to low beam and would not shift back to high beam. They said they could not do anything about that unless the can reproduce it in the service garage. I actually love this car, but I am afraid I got a lemon. (((Want to mention that there is a full infotainment center with wifi & cellphone in the car, BUT I DON'T OWN A CELLPHONE so I can't use any of that except the radio and thumbdrive."
