    Owner Reported Trouble Spots

The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"This problem occurred shortly after I bought the car. The main screen would start to freeze, then show only half the screen and sometimes reboot on it's on. I took it to the dealer who at first couldn't get it to replicate so they rebooted the system and told me to come back if that didn't fix it. I took it back because it did not fix it and this time they agreed to replace the entire head unit (screen and all) since there was no other way to fix it. They had to order the part. It took about 2 weeks to get the part. I was in Europe when the part arrived and they said that they couldn't keep the replacement part until I got back due to some issue with replacement parts from Panasonic. Weird. Consequently they came to my house picked up the car and replaced it while we were gone. When I returned the screen worked fine but there was no navigation or ability to set up a driver. I had to take it back in and it turned out that there was one additional step that had to be taken with a Prime to complete the installation that had not been done. Since the Prime is not sold in Utah, they were used to installing the systems in a normal Hybrid. Once that was done the system worked fine and has worked fine since."

    Display screen goes blank

"Constantly turns on and off over and over again every 39-45 sec or less."

    Anonymous, FL (2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)

"My video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvmX2E8TlBk The screen would remain black and not power on many times when the vehicle was started. As reported in previous videos, I would have to actually repower the vehicle several times in a row sometimes to wake it back up and get it to function again, and not even the backup camera would work sometimes. Even when the screen did work, it was very unreliable and slow with respect to connecting to my smartphone, which is a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, one of the best phones that currently exists still. So, knowing this, I worked with my dealer who ultimately received the approval from FTS for a radio replacement. This completely fixed the problem and the new screen is both fast and stable. Connections to my phone are now seamless and automatic, wirelessly, as expected. I am very happy with the result and now have no further complaints about the vehicle."

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"Same thin. The whole screen turns on and off every 30 seconds over and over again."

    Hardware replacement

"Please see my explanation of the other problem as it also applies to this one. All three problems are one and the same and were solved by a replacement of the radio (not the screen, but apparently a box that lives behind/beneath it)."

    Anonymous A., (2023 Toyota RAV4 Prime XSE 2.5-L 4 Cyl plug-in hybrid)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"I frequently have a problem while listening to things using the speaker system. The audio is frequently quieted or muted while the screen displays the audio source (and if radio, it displays the station). This happens about every 15 seconds when at its worst. This problem seems to come and go. Toyota said it might be because my smartphone updates faster than toyota can update their software."

    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"If my android phone was paired to something else it seems to want to pair to the latest device by default."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
