    First Take
New for 2001, the Sequoia is based on the competent Tundra full-sized pickup. It also shares the Tundras refined 4.7-liter, 240-hp V8 powertrain and comes with rear- or selectable full-time four-wheel drive. This large SUV slots between Toyotas 4Runner and Land Cruiser and is sized similarly to the Ford Expedition and Chevrolet Tahoe. Like those domestics, it has a third-row seat to accommodate up to eight passengers. Safety features include side-curtain air bags and electronic stability control. While the Sequoia is roomier than the uplevel Land Cruiser, it doesnt ride as comfortably and has a less sophisticated four-wheel-drive system.
