""I (myself) replaced the rack and pinion that had a small fluid leak normal for 95000 miles, as well as lower control arm rear bushings as preventive. During the subsequent wheel alignment, I discovered that the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor (in the steering column) was bad. As a result, the Vehicle Stability Control (2005 was first years for this feature) would not have performed properly affecting emergency handling and mis-application of ABS braking. Fortunately, I don't drive on snow, ice, or heavy rain. Only would have discovered this when asking shop to reset the angle to zero following alignment and then test drive with diagnostic screen still attached. Apparently most shops do not do the Zero reset although it is supposed to be paired to alignment. Did that part replacement myself for the $500 part and treating myself to my own OBD2 diagnostic tool for another $500. Net same cost to have had the shop do the replacement, but now I have the tool and knowledge. The concern is to have discovered this as well as the problem not triggering any dash indicator warning for this condition. Also found that the angle setting on my 2010 Camry was far from zero.""
