"The sensor wiring from the left rear wheel speed sensor developed a fault that resulted in several warning lights illuminating: anti-lock brakes, stability control system, braking system. After replacing the left rear wheel bearing hub and sensor, the warning indications continued. Trouble shooting the wiring estimate was too expensive and not guaranteed to find and fix the wiring fault. As a result, we are continuing to drive the vehicle with the warning lights illuminated."

"Alternator failed completely, literally when I pulled into the dealer. I could smell it burning on the way over to the dealer. I first noticed it when the car started sluggishly. My system tester said it was the battery so I replaced that. Tested it again and now it said it was the charging system as well. Thats when I knew it was time to take it into the shop. My son's 2009 Corolla's alternator failed on him too. I don't think Toyota alternators are as robust as they should be."

"I have had coils fail 5 times so far with this van. The coils on the front of the engine are not a problem to replace. To replace the 3 on the back of the engine the intake must be removed. The last time I refused to pay a mechanic and with some help did it myself. Expensive even if you do it yourself, because if you are going through all that work you should replace all three in the rear and also the plugs."

"In July 2024, the right sliding door operation failed. I noticed that a cable was hanging loose from the sliding door. Upon investigation, I determined that the cable was an electrical cable that provided feedback to the door opening and closing system (i.e., "the door is open"; "the door is fully closed"). The part is a very complicated set of electrical cables and mechanical cable that pulls the door open and closed. This cable system includes covered pulleys a gear that mounts on the motor in the door and several mounts. Surprisingly, with all required components this complex part lists at online Toyota dealers for $38 with some Toyota discounters selling it for less. I called the local Toyota dealer in FWB FL and they quoted me a price of $75. When I told them that the Toyota suggested retail price is $38 they replied that "I don't have that information" if you want it from us it will cost you $75 plus tax. I ordered it from "discountpartsmonster" and the total price including tax and shipping was less than $50. Installing the parts took about 2 hours due to the requirement to remove the door panel, cable drive from the door motor, pulley set and two sensor locations. The new part was installed and the door is working flawlessly. Examining the removed part, it appeared that the mid cable pully asselbly had become contaminated with dirt causing the small pulleys to drag or, perhaps freeze; resulting the the electrical sensor cable breaking. Considering the age of this vehicle and its prior useage by our daughter driving her four children to their many locations, the door must have been functioned hundreds to thousands of times. I am surprised that this mechanism has survided this long."
