    Road Test

Despite a light freshening for 2012, Tacoma was beginning to show its age at this point. Still, the utilitarian, practically bulletproof machine excels in hauling, towing, and off-road use—though not much else. The smooth and punchy V6 powertrain is a saving grace. Still though, for everyday driving or commuting, the Tacoma feels dated and uncomfortable. Clumsy handling makes it a chore to drive and the unsettled ride is fatiguing. Ingress is tricky because of the cabin's high floor and low roof. These also severely compromise the driving position. The rust-free composite bed is a handy and practical feature. Limited cornering capabilities and long stopping distances contributed to its low score in our road tests.
