The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2014 Toyota Tacoma owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Suspension/Steering

Shocks or struts, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, alignment, steering linkage (includes rack and pinion), power steering (pumps and hoses, leaks), wheel balance, springs or torsion bars, bushings, electronic or air suspension.

    What Owners Say

    Bushings

"Discovered front lower control arm forward bushings seized when trying to perform wheel alignment. Garage was able to align satisfactorily. Bushings were not replaced."

Anonymous, AB (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)
Steering linkage (includes rack and pinion)

"Steering knuckle failure. Would turn to the right but to the left."

Anonymous A., ME (2014 Toyota Tacoma Base 2.7-L 4 Cyl)
    Tire wear is uneven

""Front end alignment necessary. Krugen tires do not wear well, sidewall cracking (not due to under inflation) and do not hold tire pressure well.""

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)
    Wheel bearings

""left front wheel bearing became noisy, created vibration. Replaced and everything fine.""

Anonymous, ON (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)

    Climate System

AC compressor, blower (fan) motor, condenser, evaporator, heater system, automatic climate system, electrical failure, refrigerant leakage.

    What Owners Say

    A/C compressor

"Had to be replaced. $1000 repair"

Anonymous, NC (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 2.7-L 4 Cyl)
    Refrigerant leaks

"Have had replace evaporator (and related parts) twice sine owning the truck."

Anonymous, FL (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)

"i bought the truck in 2021, a year later I had to have refrigerant added, by the following summer it had leaked out. I went one summer without refilling it. Last summer I had some added, by this year it had leaked out again and had to have more added. It's too expensive to try to find leak, so just continue to add refrigerant."

Anonymous, TN (2014 Toyota Tacoma Base 2.7-L 4 Cyl)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

"The trucks entire electronics suite randomly reboots while driving, sometimes quite often, on my 30min drive home from work it can happen 4 or 5 times. Or sometimes it can go a month or two w/o anything bad, then a spurt of reboots. All my tacoma friends have the same issue, we just dont want to pay the few $K to replace it. The process - my radio is always on, and the symptoms are 1) all screen controls stop working for about 1-2 minutes. This sucks if the radio is stuck on a bad song (e.g. Prince : ) Then 2) the vehicle seems to know something is wrong and the electronics reboot, this takes 1min, much longer than the turn-on sequence when starting the truck. After that it's back to normal... unless it wants to do it all over again. The first couple of times it this was extremely disturbing as i didn't know if the critical electrical systems were affected, but the engine keeps going and lights work, so it's just a bug in Tacomas."

    Anonymous A., CA (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)
    Phone pairing (e.g., Bluetooth)

"The first sign of trouble was when the dealership stated they knew nothing about setting up the onboard infotainment center's programming, referring me to the manual that was twice the volume of the entire vehicle's owner manual. Never was able to access all features that were programmed in by the manufacturer... pretty useless of Toyota to install a system that only a doctoral electrical engineer can program. Calls are dropped from the truck system while still engaged in the handset and can only reestablish when the truck is turned off and then restarted. A third problem involves accessing GPS where voice instructions are not broadcast through the infotainment center's speaker system, requiring the driver to take attention from the road in order to follow visual directions only. Did not take the vehicle to the dealership for resolution as the extended warranty that covered then expired before the second and third problems developed, and I'm unwilling to spend the money charged today that Toyota charges for similar equipment."

Anonymous, TX (2014 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner 4.0-L V6)
