    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Backup or other camera/sensors

"Backup screen doesnt turn off at first as car is moving forward. This is a recall item not yet solved."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Display screen freezes up

"The general software in the ID four is pretty bad. Frequently things do not work and we have to turn the car off and on again in order to reboot and fix the problems, and some things simply do not work as expected."

Anonymous, OH (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Display screen goes blank

"Screen crashes while driving and infotainment system reboots. While this is happening the gage cluster turns to grayscale and shows bare minimum information. Car continues to drive. I believe there is a new recall that will address this problem, but does not yet have a remedy."

Anonymous, NJ (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Heads-up display

"Problem is that driver must divert attention from driving while looking at the display."

Anonymous, VT (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"Way too many electronic gizmos and non-intuitive options, spend too much time looking at screen. Also, system that senses close objects and sometimes actually stops the car to keepo from hitting them--it keeps me from driving into graass or weeds when i am turning around on narrow rods, and once left me sitting broadside across a narrow road, unable to go forward or back except in very tiny increments."

Anonymous, (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro Electric)
    Steering wheel controls

"Two problems: 1. Capacitive steering wheel controls provide haptic feedback after press, even if action doesn't occur, e.g. pressing cruise-control button will give vibration feedback but not activate cruise control. 2. Capacitive buttons can be triggered by accidental swipe across the surface - not just an intentional press."

Anonymous, MD (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Voice control commands

"If my husband and I are having a conversation in the car, the AI VOICE PROMPT continues to wake up over & over again. Its so bad that we either stop talking to each other, while in the car, or we whisper to each other."

Anonymous, IL (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

    Anonymous A., CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Keyless entry

"When we first got the car, no issues with keyless entry. After about a month, the driver-side keyless unlock stopped working. Same with the trunk. Locking any or all doors still works. Locking/unlocking with the remote still works."

Anonymous A., MA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro Electric)

"The door latches are electronic. the drivers side door latch stopped working and had to be replaced. It was a pain because to enter the vehicle I had to use the remote to lower all of the windows and unlatch from the inside of the vehicle."

Anonymous, WA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro Electric)

    EV Charging

Won't charge at home; won't work with some public chargers; won't fully charge; charge connection; charge port door.

    What Owners Say

    Charge connection problem

"Problem trying to charge at home started about 3 months after purchasing car. They thought it could be my home charger. Wemt out and purchased new charger and still have same problem (Grizzle and Charge Point Level two. Problem starts with no white lite sometimes, sometimes get red light at charging port. Car instrument panel show red battery, red car, red triangle, and some times advises that 12 volt system has problem, Panel indicates do not drive car. No resolve, car has been at dealer for over 30 days several times. Only provided load twice."

    Anonymous A., OH (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Charges too slowly

"Noticed car was charging slowly and not charging fully - brought in for service fixed took. 2weeks was not a typical issue and software related."

    Anonymous, (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Charging port problem

"We were travelling and we're about 150 miles from home. We needed a charge to continue our trip. Got off the highway. 1st DC fast charger doesn't work. Then next doesn't. Realize it is the car as other people work on it. Try two different level 2 chargers and nothing. Contact VM roadside and the people keep wanting to come and give the car a jump start no matter how many times I explain it is not that. We drive to the local VW dealership about 10 minutes before closing on a Friday. They have the same problem. We have to leave the car with them and rent a car. The car was there over 30 days. Just got a call that it is finally repaired but we are on vacation. So as soon as we get home, we get to drive 2+ hours to finally pick up the car and then drive 2+ hours home. This, along with the light assembly means out of about 9-10 months ownership of the car, we have been without it for about 2 months"

    Anonymous A., PA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Won't charge at home

"Has failed to start charge 7 times requiring towing, car has spent over 160 days at VW Dealer. They have not resolved the problem to date. Can not trust car to drive on overnight stay. Dealer has only one mechanic who can work on car. Dealer claims they can not reproduce problem."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)
    Other climate system problem

"The cars A/C stopped working, twice! Even after the recall was completed, it happened again"

Anonymous, MA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Electric)
    Refrigerant leaks

"One week after purchasing the vehicle, the AC was blowing warm air. Dealer diagnose the issue as no refrigerant in system. They topped off the system and that fix the problem for two weeks eventually on the second trip a defective valve was found leaking refrigerant."

Anonymous, CA (2023 Volkswagen ID4 Pro S Electric)

"I had a lot of build quality issues, but this was the one that took the longest to repair. There was a faulty part that allowed all the refrigerant to leak out of the AC system."
