The Reliability score is based on our latest subscriber survey of 2022 Volkswagen Taos owners. The owner comments describe problems respondents experienced with this vehicle.

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

"20000 miles brake pads needed to be replaced. Dealer replaced them and said it was normal"

Anonymous, CT (2022 Volkswagen Taos SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"breaks needed replacement after 12 months"

Anonymous, TX (2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""On my third annual maintenance visit, besides changing the oil, transfer case fluid, and all of the filters, I was told my rear brake pads were totally gone and the rotors were bad too. I had to have the entire rear brakes redone and the vehicle had less than 30k miles at the time. I don't put many miles on the vehicle and the bulk of my driving is under 40 mph, in the city.""

Anonymous, IN (2022 Volkswagen Taos SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

""My rear brakes prematurely needed replacement at about 20,000 miles. Dealer did it at no cost to me.""

Anonymous, FL (2022 Volkswagen Taos S 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Rotors

"Rotors were worn and replaced by dealer who said it was normal for German cars"

Anonymous, CT (2022 Volkswagen Taos SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

    What Owners Say

    Antifreeze leaks

    "Valve gasket replacement"

Anonymous, IL (2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"This was due to the defective head gasket and was finally resolved. You can look up Volkswagen TSB 15-23-01 for more information."

Anonymous, NJ (2022 Volkswagen Taos SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The known problem with the head gasket. After that it didn't run right for some time."

Anonymous, MI (2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

    "No display and or froze."

Anonymous, FL (2022 Volkswagen Taos SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Display screen goes blank

"Screen may suddenly go blank or fail to illuminate"

Anonymous, CT (2022 Volkswagen Taos Unsure 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other in-car electronics problem

""At startup, my dashboard and radio lights dim to almost illegibility fairly often, since purchase; probably 20 times over 3 years. The dealer said it would be very hard to diagnose, since it goes away the next time I start the car. The almost dangerous issue is the car's electronics during driving, has often reset all my mileage monitoring and adaptive cruise control setting back to zero. The scary headache is that it sets the winter tires setting back to 50 MPH from 65 MPH, for example. While driving over 50 MPH, with that unwanted reset back to 50 MPH, I get the Winter Tires Warning, which can't be reset until I'm stopped. I lose Mileage from Start, long-term mileage and since refuel accumulating values....very annoying!!! During my upcoming 40,000 mile service, I plan to leave the car all day if needed for them to somehow find and fix this problem.""

Anonymous, FL (2022 Volkswagen Taos S 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Engine Major

Engine rebuild or replacement, cylinder head, head gasket, turbocharger or supercharger, timing chain or belt.

    What Owners Say

    Head gasket

""Low coolant light came on. Took to dealership. Said head gasket leaked. Thank God undet warranty. Only 16,ooo miles in it. Never overheating""

Anonymous, IL (2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"This was the 2nd time the dealer had to replace the defective head gasket. Both times under warranty. Hopefully this new head gasket design will permanently resolve my issue. Volkswagen issued a TSB on this issue. TSB 15-23-01"

Anonymous, NJ (2022 Volkswagen Taos SEL 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other major engine problem

"The engine did not perform correctly after the head gasket was replaced. I had to take it back multiple times before they got it repaired."

Anonymous, MI (2022 Volkswagen Taos SE 1.5-L 4 Cyl turbo)
