    Fuel System/Emissions

Sensors (O₂, or oxygen, sensor), emission-control devices (includes EGR), fuel-injection system, fuel gauge/sender, fuel pump, problems filling up the tank.

    What Owners Say

    Fuel injection system

"Replaced fuel injector and fuel injector harness"

    Anonymous, (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan S 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Repair under warranty to my complete satisfaction."

Anonymous A., NC (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The problem started gradually as an occasional "hiccup" while driving. My wife brought it to the dealer--a mechanic drove it and said that there was nothing wrong. We then took it on a trip from SE Texas to Northern Kentucky. In far Western Kentucky, an EPC error appeared with the message that the car was running in "limp mode." We were on an Interstate at the time, but luckily near an exit. AAA towed us to the garage in the small town that we were in. By the time the garage had the car, the error had disappeared and the car ran normally. The owner took it for a test drive and duplicated the problem. They tested the car while it was still running and found out that it was the #3 injector. We had to stay overnight while they retrieved the part from a dealership in Tennessee and had the car repaired the next morning."

Anonymous, TX (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan S 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"acceleration diminished - happened 3 times - started April 2024 - Fixed July 2024 - fuel injection harness replaced - covered by warranty"

Anonymous, CA (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"I had to replace all the fuel injectors in 2022, which I paid out of pocket. And just recently had to replace a wire harness for the injector which VW does have an extended warranty recall, so this was covered. They also updated my computer to change up the sequence of the power trans. VW knows they have issues with their Tiguans injectors and their harnesses along with all their transmissions (all of their vehicles to be honest have issues with rough and/or sticking shifting, I had a brand new 2015 GTI before my son was born and it too had hard shifting and sticking with the transmission)."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Exterior lights (other than headlights)

"Right side mirror turn signal and mirror heater do not work when in the extended position. They both work when the mirror is folded against the body-electrical problems I guess. Im fed up repairing these smaller problems because its so expensive. At the present time the problem still exists."

Anonymous A., BC (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other electrical system problem

"Started one month ago. Experience it every time I drive. Affects power to all windows, stop/start system, and electronic parking break."

Anonymous A., SK (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Wiper motor or washer

"When I first purchased the car the window washer fluid bottle kept emptying every couple of days. I took the car into the dealer on numerous occasions, but all I got was that there was nothing wrong with the fluid bottle. I was so frustrated with the dealer that I went to another dealer. The same story, there nothing wrong with the system. At that point I told them to keep the car for a couple of days and drive it themselves. They refused. About eighteen months later a recall was issued and only then was the problem resolved."

Anonymous A., BC (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Engine Cooling

Radiator, cooling fan, water pump, thermostat, antifreeze leaks, overheating.

    What Owners Say

Anonymous A., KY (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Water pump

"Water pump leaking, thermostat locked up; took it to the VW dealer. Charged $2000.00 to replace both. Kept the car 7 days"

Anonymous A., KY (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan Premium 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"Required removal and replacement of primary water pump, thermostat, and replacement antifreeze"

Anonymous, NM (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Display screen freezes up

Anonymous A., NS (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Display screen goes blank

"Chronic problem with infotainment screen going blank. If screen is pressed in specific spots while blank it continues to function. Such as change fm station. If screen is blank I turn off car then back on to correct blank screen."

Anonymous A., MA (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Engine Minor

Accessory belts and pulleys, engine computer, engine mounts, engine knock or ping, fuel leaks, oil leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Oil leaks

"After an oil change the car started leaking oil. We took the car back to the dealer and they said nothing was wrong"

    Anonymous A., TX (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan S 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Body Hardware

Windows, locks and latches, doors or sliding doors, tailgate, trunk or hatch, mirrors, seat controls (power or manual), seat belts, sunroof, convertible top, glass defect.

    What Owners Say

    Tailgate, hatch or trunk

"Tailgate sometimes will fail to completely open, only opening about 30%."

Anonymous A., NS (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Brakes

Premature pad/rotor wear, pulsation or vibration, antilock system, parking brake, master cylinder, calipers, squeaking, brake failure, regenerative braking.

    What Owners Say

    Premature brake wear

"The rear brakes needed replacement at 45m miles. The dealer said he fixed the issue but they continued to pulsate. At the next scheduled dealer maintenance the dealer again said there was a problem with the rear brakes and they needed replacement. This time they did it at no charge because there was some unexplained issue with the previous installation."

Anonymous A., WI (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Transmission Minor

Gear selector and linkage, transmission computer, transmission sensor or solenoid, clutch adjustment, rough shifting, slipping transmission, leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Rough shifting

"The auto transmission on their GTI's and Tiguan's have delayed, and rough shifting. Also this occurs a little bit with their manual transmissions but is not as noticeable. I was told it's due to their dual clutch system within their transmissions. There has been way too many scary incidents when I do press on the acceleration but the vehicle does not have the same-time response to my command. There is a major lag and jolt-like hard shifting that occurs way too much."

Anonymous, CA (2018 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    Exhaust

Muffler, pipes, catalytic converter, exhaust manifold, heat shields, leaks.

    What Owners Say
