    Noises And Leaks

Squeaks, rattles, wind noises, seals and/or weather stripping, air and water leaks.

    What Owners Say

    Air or water leaks

"Drain for the sunroof was clogged and water was soaking the interior floors"

Anonymous, NY (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

"The sunroof drain lines were defective, this is a known problem, and the interior of my car was flooded with 2" of water that leaked past the sunroof channel. the dealer acknowledged this known defect and replace the sunroof drain lines and ALL of the carpeting in my VW Tiguan. They had my car in the shop and dried out the interior prior to the remedial work... for about two weeks. The dealer performed the work under my warranty, and also loaned me a replacement car. I'm happy with the repair."

Anonymous, NJ (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other noises & leaks problem

"When the vehicle was approximately 4 years old the sunroof started leaking water into the cabin. WHen it rained water would pool on the roof and the drain system had gotten blocked. The water therefore came into the cabin of the car. The car started smelling musty and sometimed you would get water on you if you drove after a rainstorm. Volkswagen fixed the issue under warranty at no cost, so it seems to be a common problem with this vehicle."

Anonymous, NJ (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Seals and/or weather-stripping

"Had a wet smell and moisture inside the vehicle. Two trips to dealership before a recall was found by us which didnt apply to my vehicle, but was eventually fixed and covered by the dealership"

Anonymous, QC (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"This does not work since the head unit died due to poor parts quality control. It was a known VW issue that they found a loophole to avoid paying for under warranty."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Hardware replacement

"I brought the vehicle in around 50,000 miles and was told that the replacement of a faulty (well-known issue with VW) head unit that controls GPS, Music and apps would not be covered. I had called them regarding this issue prior to the warranty lapsing and they still refused to do anything other than charge me full price for a OEM part replacement."

Anonymous, NY (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    Other in-car electronics problem

"VW stopped the Car-Net system which wasa key feature in the d3cision of getting this car. This rendered most of the infotainment systems inoperable."

Anonymous, OH (2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)

    What Owners Say

    Starter

"Starter in my 2019VW Tiguan failed at about 75000 miles. My water pump also failed at about 77000 miles. The starter cost $700 to repair and the water pump cost $1200 to repair. All of these repairs occurred once and in 2024. My previous family car was a 2008 Volvo V70. I sold the car in 2021 with 280000 miles on it and never replaced major engine components such as the starter, water pump, alternator or fuel injection system. I did replace the a/c compressor. I bought the Volvo in 2013 with 50000 miles on it but never experienced failures like I have with my VW Tiguan."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
