    In-car Electronics

Infotainment system (audio, GPS, phone), rear entertainment system, backup or other camera/sensors, head-up display.

    What Owners Say

    Backup or other camera/sensors

"The rear back up camera stays on after you are driving. This doesn't bother me as I enjoy visual access to what's behind me, except that it also stops the radio while it's on?! When I took it in for service, they said it didn't happen for them and it didn't read a code for that at all (which is how they determine something is wrong, they hook it up to a machine that tells them where a malfunction is and they fix/ replace whatever code). The other issue with the rear back up camera is that when I am driving, an error message box intermittently pops up that says, "Rear back up camera not detected". Nothing serious, just blocks my console for a few seconds and alerts me, although, in excess of 60mph when I am not in reverse, it's an automatic, so not shifting either. Both dealerships, the service techs said it didn't happen to them and no codes, so they couldn't do anything about it. I said I could take a picture and I could show them, they said it had to happen with them in the car (photo wouldn't help if it wasn't reading a code)."

    Display screen freezes up

"Its happened a couple of times while Im driving and depending on the navigation. VW says its an issue with apple and that they expect the next update in October."

External music device interface (e.g., smart phone, MP3 player)

"I can't play any music from a USB disk if a phone is connected. This sometimes works but 90% of the time it does not and there seems to be no reason why"

Anonymous A., NJ (2023 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL 2.0-L 4 Cyl turbo)
    In-dash navigation system (GPS)

"When Apple Car Play is active the internal GPS goes bonkers and shows that you are hundreds of miles away from where you actually are. I've never seen anything like it but this makes navigation either in CarPlay or in the internal navigation system impossible. This got somewhat better after a software update but still happens occasionally, again for no apparent reason"

    Electrical Accessories

Cruise control, clock, warning lights, body control module, keyless entry, wiper motor or washer, tire pressure monitor, interior or exterior lights, horn, gauges, 12V power plug, USB ports, alarm or security system, remote engine start, heated or cooled seats, heated steering wheel, headlights, automatic headlights, automatic wipers, wireless charging pad.

    What Owners Say

    Interior lights

"Drivers side vanity mirror came on while driving 1000 to a wedding, and would not go off. I was told it was supposed to come on when you open the mirror, I just moved the sun visor ti block the sun. VW service manager Jason of Vanguard said it was a manufacturing defect. He ordered the part, I went back in two days and he installed in just a few hours. When I got in, it was off and ai was ecstatic. My husband checked and it didn't come on at all. I was fine with that since it had been impeding my driving at dusk, dawn or dark for months. We had subsequent work done at the dealership were we purchased the car, and when they opened it, it worked, and, vanity light has been fine ever since. I don't think I'll ever need the light for the mirror. Strange that the light comes on when you open the mirror, don't know who does there make up while driving at night... couldn't think of any other use, lol. Although simple, extremely frustrating to have the light in all the time, especially at dusk when you are blocking ths sun and this bright light is shining at you from inside the car. Also, I am very light sensitive anyway and usually prefer to drive at night."

Reliability indicates how models have performed in the past, providing the basis for predicting how the vehicles will hold up in the year ahead. These charts provide the most comprehensive reliability information available to consumers. Based on information received from our latest subscriber survey for over 300,000 vehicles, our reliability history charts give you a rundown on how 2000 through 2024 vehicles are holding up in 20 potential trouble spots, ranging from the engine, transmission, electric motor, EV charging, and brakes to power equipment and the electrical accessories. NA indicates that we did not receive a large enough sample size to provide data for a specific year. An X indicates that the vehicle was not manufactured for a specific year.
