Cookware

If you’re looking for a stainless steel set on a budget, the Calphalon Classic 10-Piece set could be the one for you, especially at this sale price. This set receives excellent scores for cooking evenness and heating speed. And you don’t have to worry too much about food sticking: Its scores for food release and ease of cleaning are both very good.

Still undecided?
CR's expert guidance and unbiased reviews can help you purchase with confidence.

With more than 120 years in the business, Lodge knows a thing or two about cast iron, and the 6-quart Lodge Essential Enamel Cast-Iron Dutch oven is a solid option at a reasonable price. Bread baked in this Dutch oven is nicely browned and crispy, and it receives very good ratings for its even cooking and heating speed. We also found this enameled Dutch oven exceptionally easy to clean, and it’s dishwasher-safe. At over 13 pounds, though, it’s quite a lift.

All-Clad is a coveted brand for home chefs and professionals—they even use All-Clad pans in The Bear! This stainless steel set scored very well in our tests, especially when it came to cooking evenness and food release. We tried the 10-piece set, which is $200 more than Macy’s 7-piece set. So if you don’t need a full suite of pots and pans, this could be a great opportunity to invest in some high-end cookware.

Air Fryers

The Dash Tasti-Crisp is small but mighty. At a measured capacity of 1.9 quarts and an overall size of less than a square foot, this 6-pound model is one of the most compact air fryers in our ratings. Still, it ranks among the best. It earns solid scores for controls and cleaning, and excels in our noise test. It shares the honor of being the quietest air fryer in our ratings with its analog counterpart, the Dash Express Tasti Crisp. It has a one-year warranty, which is typical for most models.

The Instant Vortex 4 Plus Air Fryer 4QT is a standout for the legibility of its digital controls, relatively low noise levels, and ease of cleaning. What’s more, its square basket design makes it easy to fit in a small Pyrex dish or baking pan—great for turning out sweet treats. The measured 3-quart model has a 1-year warranty.

The Instant Vortex Slim air fryer, which typically sells for $120, is an all-around strong performer, with intuitive controls and quiet operation, and we found it pretty easy to clean, too. At 11 inches in width and 12 inches in height, it won’t be overly obtrusive on your countertop, though it is fairly deep (18 inches). It has a measured capacity of 4.9 quarts, five cooking modes (air fry, broil, bake, roast, and reheat), and one-touch programs to cook a range of foods, including wings, vegetables, potatoes, cookies, and more. It comes with a 1-year warranty.

The Ninja Foodi FlexBasket air fryer has one basket with a divider, which allows you to either cook one large batch of food or two different foods simultaneously. (Since they’re separated by just a divider, though, if you want to check on one side, you have to open the whole basket.) It has a measured capacity of 4.9 quarts, and we found this model easy to use and clean. While it’s not the quietest air fryer, it’s not overly noisy, either. It has six cooking modes—air fry, air broil, bake, roast, reheat, and dehydrate—and pre-programmed settings for specific foods, and it comes with a 1-year warranty.

Coffee Makers

The Ninja Specialty CM401 is one of the most versatile coffee makers we’ve tested. This terrific all-in-one machine is capable of brewing hot and iced coffee, lattes, macchiatos, and other specialty brews. In our tests, it received the highest possible mark for brew performance (meaning it maintained a temperature of 195°F or more for five or six minutes), and its glass carafe handles comfortably. This model is easy to clean and comes packed with features, including an over-ice brew mode for iced coffee, a built-in milk frother, brew-strength control, and brew-size adjustment for everything from travel mugs to full carafes.

Cuisinart makes several top-performing drip coffee makers in Consumer Reports’ ratings, including the Cuisinart PerfecTemp 14 Cup Programmable DCC-3200. It impressed our testers in our brew performance tests, meaning you can expect a great-tasting cup (as long as your beans are fresh). It’s also simple to clean and convenient to use, and the carafes are easy to hold and pour from.

Mixers

The KitchenAid Bowl Lift KSM70 looks good on a counter, and its bowl-lift style fits nicely under upper cabinets. It also operates quietly, excelling in our noise test. Performance-wise, it’s excellent at mixing cake and pancake batter and whipping egg whites to airy peaks. Its kneading performance and results in our whipped cream tests were also very good. It weighs a hefty 26 pounds and is available in blue and 11 other colors.

KitchenAid’s Artisan Series is actually now $10 less at Walmart than it has been since Monday. It’s a step up from its Classic line. The 10-speed KitchenAid Artisan Series KSM195PSBK comes with the usual attachments, plus a pastry beater, a bowl shield to prevent splatters, and an extra 3-quart bowl for smaller jobs. The standard-issue stainless bowl is 5 quarts. In our tests, this mixer aces our tasks for whipping cream and mixing cookie dough and is almost as good at kneading bread dough. It works quietly, and our testers find it very convenient to change the beaters and clean. It weighs 21 pounds and has a tilt-head, so you’ll need some clearance between the counter and the cabinets. Bonus: You have your choice of 10 colors.

Toasters

If you’re looking for a basic toaster that will serve up perfectly consistent toast for breakfast in the morning (or anytime for that matter) the Hamilton Beach Gourmet 22996 2-Slice toaster may just fit the bill. This model earned top marks in our tests for one-slice and full-batch toasting, as well as color range. The downside? The toaster’s exterior and crumb tray may be tricky to clean, our testers warn. But that may not matter at a price this low.

The Ninja DCT821, which was $40 cheaper during the early October sales, is an air-frying toaster oven with two separate cavities and a handy interior light to help you monitor your food while it cooks. And if you’re particular about the color of your toast, you’re in luck: We saw impressive results in our color range tests, and a full batch of toast comes out evenly browned. This toaster oven also receives a very good baking score based on tests in which we bake cookies and muffins, aiming to achieve a consistent color without underbaking or burnt edges. Plus, it’s currently at the best price we’ve seen. Like most toaster ovens, it’s not great at reheating foods. It also has a middling score for ease of cleaning.

Blenders

The Ninja BN701 Professional Plus with Auto iQ earns top scores in our tests for ice crushing and convenience, and it’s very good at puréeing as well. Plus, based on CR’s surveys, Ninja owners say they’re very satisfied with their blenders. The downside is that it receives just a middling score on blending smoothies. We saw this model for less around Christmas last year, but if you want to get a jump on this year’s holiday shopping, you might want to take advantage of this deal.

The Professional Plus Kitchen System BN801 Personal Blender is especially handy if you plan on using a new blender to make smoothies and soups, considering its excellent performance in our tests for icy drinks and purees. It also has very good performance in our ice crush tests.

Food Processors

Cuisinart introduced the food processor to the U.S. in the early 1970s, and it has been a recognized brand ever since. The Cuisinart Custom 14 DFP-14BCNY earns a top rating for slicing and is a strong performer when it comes to chopping and shredding. It also earns an excellent score for noise. It has a 14-cup capacity, stands 15 inches high, and weighs nearly 15 pounds. Many of the food processors we’ve evaluated operate with push buttons, but this one has levers: one for on, the other for pulsing and off.
